At least once a day I get caught pulling something out of the garbage and putting it into the recycle bin. I get called crazy and told that I am taking the recycle thing too far. I really don't know why the family acts this way since I am the one who puts their hand in the garbage .....
Is there anyone else who has this problem? I hate to think that I'm alone here and starting to believe that I actually am crazy.

2 of us at work do this...and oh my do we get talked about...eye rolls..everything. I work in a hairsalon, I feel bad enough about the enviromental impact my career makes, but seeing so many cardboard boxes and plastic bottles go in the garbage, my coworker and I have to pick. She was bringing the recycling home to her place because our mall wasn't offering a recycling service, after much harrassing...they are.

Biut who really cares what they think, I would ask "seriously, what is too far?" I believe there is no such thing.

a few responses come to mind... "if buying all natural products and driving a hybrid were all it took to save the environment then i'd be happy to stop rummaging through the garbage!" or "if you put the recyclables where they belong in the first place you won't have to watch me move them. your choice, friend!"

kudos to you for doing not only your part, but fixing the parts of others to help the cause!

Dear Trash Pickers,

Keep up the great work!! It may take a little while before those lazy, careless slobs get on board. Just be careful that you don't become too excessive compulsive about separating trash. It can become addictive and is a tuff social burden to bare. Just be non shalant about it and pretend you're deaf. Sort of like a robot, no smile, (OK maybe a little smirk) no eye contact, -nothing. Just go into that nasty trash can and do your thing baby. AND most of all! Try to avoid that look of disgust, that's what the anti-reclaimer feeds off of. It fuels their desire to antagonize, to disrupt your determination to stop you at all cost. But why, why, why you may ask yourself a hundred times why. Because they're afraid they may have to get their lazy butts in gear and show some concern..................Oh yeah I almost forgot the most important thing. If you do get questioned by the anti-reclaimers, tell them it's Alicia's fault!

Thank you for the kind words of support ... It makes me crazy when I see water bottles in the trash when the recycle bin is a step away! The first step to helping the environment starts with me, right?
