I never was much for Diet sodas, but I do like carbonated drinks. I have switched to La Croix carbonated mineral water. It comes in cans, and they have different fruit flavored ones, grapefruit, berry, orange, lime.
Bex is right, Diet Coke is poison. According to Skinny Bitch (has anyone else read that? love it!) aspertame mixes with a certain chemical in your body and turns into FORMALDEHYDE!!!!! They literally tell you that by drinking Diet Coke to lose weight, you're literally preserving your fat a**. They don't sugarcoat anything in that book!
Hi, Tiffany...Skinny Bitch is what started this journey for me. I was told I have MS, now I think I have a diet coke problem. Mine was always diet Pepsi, but they are all the same as far as poison content. I actually loved that book and think more people should just tell it like it is. However, for the more squeamish folks in our lives, The Kind Diet is probably a better choice. I have not had a diet soda since before Thanksgiving. I feel much better, but the damage it caused my nervous system may be irreversible. Stories like mine are a perfect reason to kick the diet soda habit.
I agree with Cheryl King about Skinny Bitch. That book whipped me into shape and just flat out told me about all of the bad things we consume. Also, when ever I put something into my body (well sometimes) I always try to ask myself "Will this be good for my body?" Diet coke? Definitely no. When it comes to coke, I cannot drink it without feeling guilty or mad at myself. Every once and a while, fine, but everyday I would feel horrible. Also think about what coke can do! Coke can take rust off of cars!! Imagine what is happen in your stomach. Kick it and you will be much much happier and healthier :) You can do it.
Once you quit it you will just be so boaged out by it.
Wean yourself off it with another caffeinated beverage (like tea or black coffee). My mother has been drinking 2 litres + a day of DC--since it was "Tab." She has almost every auto-immune disorder there is, barring HIV/AIDS and lupus. I've seen her CAT scan--an incredible amount of her brain is dead (necrotic vasculitis). You can actually see grey spots all over. She functions pretty well, except has a terrible memory.
Also, Sprouts and Whole Foods sell chewing gum without aspertame.
I finally quit diet products of all kinds, I quit the diet pop two years ago and never looked back. I did the sugarfree gum and mint thing off and on. Have had TMJ for twenty years so it was so bad I finally quit gum a month ago. Thank goodness! What a discusting habit, like chewing cud. My headaches are bye bye now.
Hey all! I'm glad I found this forum... I created a site called www.arealaddiction.com dedicated to Diet Coke addicts like you guys :) I am passionate about Diet Coke and its long term health dangers and am looking to grow a community of people with the same theory. I write a raw blog and new research and data is being posted regularly...
I AM A DIET COKE ADDICT! I drink up to 6 litres every day and it's disgusting... I hope you guys can all connect with me and we can create a community of self-proclaimed addicts!! I would love to hear your stories !
Check out Zevia and Blue Sky. Both make sodas, including colas, sweetened with Stevia. Stevia is a plant, not some weird chemical, and it's been used for hundreds of years without adverse effects. I would try switching to one of those and see how you feel.

Both brands are more expensive than Coke and Pepsi, but I think it's well worth it to kick the aspartame.
Hey everyone,
I'm just gonna start with one comment: Been there, done that.
Here is what worked for me:
I noticed when I was craving a diet coke, water or juice would not do the trick to subside my craving (obviously) BUT I started buying seltzer water and adding a splash of organic pomegranate juice and a few slices of lime. Mmm delish. The carbonation was one thing I was kind of addicted to so the seltzer water calmed me down and gave me that fizzy feeling.
I concur with the others that you CAN do it. It has been over a year since I've had any soda and my body has truly thanked me for it. It is icky icky stuff. I realized that eating healthy and continuing to drink diet coke made me a walking oxymoron, so I suffered through it and quit.
You can do it!!!
I did quit for a year or two and lived on Perrier Water with lime... Good advice Lindsay :)
