Weight Loss tips:
like with anything in order to achieve different results you need to CHANGE what you are already doing
example: you wanted to go vegan/help your body/environment etc so in order to do that you CHANGED your diet by cutting out meat and dairy.
you now want to lose some weight so you need to CHANGE your eating habits.
focus on the following:
1.portion size2. eat at about 1/4 of the speed you usually do, it will feel wierd to you as your not use to it but others wont notice, i promise!3. stop/rest inbetween mouthfuls, take time over your meal4. think - don't worry/get obessed with food and calorie, you really don't need to, but just think about what your going to eat etc.5. take some exercise
i'm not saying this in a patronising way - i needed to lose some weight and managed to, it just sort of happened, something in my head just clicked and i didn't obsess about things anymore. But the biggest tip is if you don't feel like you're drastically changing your habits you wont see any improvements.
food tips:
Nori burittos would be good as a lunch - the nori is really good if you're wanting to lose weight and you can just fill it with some rice + vegggies. You don't walways need avacado + humous. it's nice to use these but they are high in fat although it is good fat but may look at the quantitie you are using. also the peanut butter you had, maybe stick to just a couple of teaspoons for a snack, and maybe not all of those fats in one day. that might be where it all adds up.
also my biggest tip for weightloss and you have heard it before and everyone says 'yes i know' but about 2% of people actually act on it. WATER. Drin atleast 2litres a day and it really will help flush you, hydrate you etc. A lot of hunger is actually thirst.
aso, veg sitr-fry's add some beans products. bean stews with brown rice. Lentil soup+roll
hope thi helps, let me know in a couple of weeks how you're getting on!. x

I have a tough time losing weight also.....
For those of us who have a difficult time, you may have to limit the amount of fat you are getting and the amount of bread/pasta/grains you eat. If you follow the book, you are supposed to be filling up with veggies not the other stuff! So eat more veggies! Some people just cannot lose weight if they eat even one piece of bread or one Tbs PB. Its unfortunate, but thats how my body is.
The other thing: If you work out FIRST thing in the morning you burn three times more calories than if you did it later. 20 minutes in the AM can equal as much as 1.5 hours of working out. It sets your metabolism for the day. SO, I always try to lift some 10 lb weights for 20 minutes in the morning. It makes a HUGE HUGE difference! I save my favorite TV show for this time and watch it when I get up while lifting, so it gives me more motivation.
:( Some of us just have a harder time losing. Fill up on veggies and then eat the rest when you are already full.

This is going to sound crazy, but here it is. It sounds like Elise is eating enough, but a lot of people don't. If you restrict your calories too much your body goes into fat saver mode. And, women are always different than what the normal diet says will help. Every one is right about the veggies...eat them and a lot, raw if you can. I always have a veggie tray on hand and even my carnivore family loves it. One thing I know for sure is that people need to stop thinking of fruit as the devil...it is not. Fruit is very good in the morning because it is easy to digest and is full of good stuff...I love berries, and they are the best for you. The darker the color of the berries the better. Apples have pectin which does help you lose weight and lots of fiber, my doctor told me that. A pay attention to serving size. If the package says a serving is 1/4 cup has 190 calories and you eat a whole cup...that is 790 in one sitting. I lost 20 lbs. in a month going vegan, and I used my measuring cup for serving size and ate unlimited fruit and vegetables. I also eat more beans than grains, but they can be calorie dense. If you just measure and count all the calories in what you eat for a week or two, you will be able to visualize proper sizes. I do not obsess with calories or serving size, but it did help to write down every calorie I ate for a couple of weeks, it just gives you a good look at how fast they add up and how much food it takes. If you want to lose weight, the average calorie intake for a woman is 1000 to 1500, depending on activity level. Good luck all!!!!

More beans and greens....less fruit and fat (peanut butter and almond/soy milk)....Greens and beans are very low fat but high in good stuff like protein, calcium, iron, etc.

Hey, you guys are completely awesome! My husband, however, is losing faith. I am diligently attempting to keep him to a 30-day promise, however! We both lost 10 pounds in the first week, then nothing since then. WE mainly eat RAW...Also, we both are presently having acne problems when we never had them before, really! I would get maybe a zit twice or three times a year, now I have three in a month!! My husband is about the same! We feel overwhelmed.
I want to point out that I CANNOT go backwards, cannot consider consuming animal again, but I told him that if he really has the need, we will after 30 days, for just one meal. I know that he will feel heavy and yucky, just like I do just thinking about it. I have no cravings for anything food, but he is not giving in to this kind of living, he is grumpy a lot.
But, not losing any weight since our first week is the biggest bummer. Note that we HAVE NOT added additional physical exercise to our lives! However, we thought that by just changing our diet and way of lliving that we would actually be losing weight without adding the physical exertion--we have been walking more and getting out, but no permanent physical activities.
It sounds so silly now that I type it that we are frustrated without even exerting ourselves each and every day! It's as though we are not giving life a chance.

Hi Aleta,Losing weight and keeping it off takes time. It's really frustrating, i know! I've tried to loose weight all my life and failed. Since doing this (vegan) over 3 months I have lost 1.5stone and kept it off. I wasn't even trying to lose weight. The reaon why people always tend to loose the most amount of weight in the early periods of a diet change etc is because most of it is water retention.
As for the acne breakout, completely normal. Actually a good sign (although not a good look i know) because it is just your body really detoxifying and getting all the nasty toxins out of your body. It will settle down soon. Drink lots of water to speed up the detox process.
If weight loss is your main objective at the moment i really recommend paul mckenna's new 'i can make you thin' book. It's a new full coulour addition and really good. It's not a diet and doesn't make any dietary suggestions/meal plans. it's purely about mentally reprogramming your brain and how you think and feel about food. I found it very useful and comforting. i always used to think about food, all the time, always thinking of the next meal and it would drive me MAD. I read the book and felt so powerful and now it hardly crosses me mind. I really recommend it.
good luck, and please keep me updated, i'd love to know if i helped, and how you get on even if i didn't help! x

Thank you so much Helly, I will look into everything you said! I feel so yucky right now, when I felt so good the first week to 2nd week! I don't want to lose faith, and you have helped! Thank you.

Aleta, Don't loose faith!! You will get thru this phase! Instead of eating mostly raw maybe you could try switching up your food choices, like more cooked greens and cooked proteins? Barley tea is helpful to tonify. Maybe because the time of year eating raw is not what your body needs? I have a great recipe for Polarity Tea if your interested and it helps calm and detox. Let me know if you would like the recipe!! :0)
