Hi
Just wanted to introduce myself and would love to hear from anyone who is vegan and also celiac.
I was diagnosed with CD 10 months ago, been a really rough year, found myself an awsome naturopath and on my road to recovery or so I thought, I have still so many food intolerances, aside from been on a strict Gluten Free diet and mostly dairy free for the last 10 months.
I bought the book today so taking my first steps, although must admit I am a little concerned with my lack of wholegrains already, so anyone who can share information on Celiac and Vegetarianism I would love to hear from you :)
I am married mother of 2 and from Western Australia, my husband is supportive of my diet changes although not making changes himself although he understands I will only be cooking one meal ;) I would love my husband to join me, he is a diabetic T1 and I think would benifit, my Daughter is also a celiac and both myself and my daughter have low bone density (osteopenia).
Anyway enough about me, look forward to the journey and hope to share stories and get to know you.
Lisa :)
I guess I would also like to know what to be careful of, is a vegan recommended and safe for someone with celiac disease? I am sure I will be healther although must admit a little worried as I dont get many wholegrains as it is and my diet is very limited.
Lisa, I think I may be celiac too. How did u know? I have no insurance to go be tested but i'm always bloated and gassy and sometimes constipated. I've cut out all dairy. I do soymilk or almond milk now. I thought dairy was the problem but now i'm thinking gluten. This scares me because I eat alot of oatmeal, ezekiel bread, barley etc..
Hi Amy
You can have a blood test first, if the blood test is positive you will need to have this confirmed in hospital by a Endoscopy. But the bloods will help, you could also contact the celiac society in your area, they can give you advise and information on testing etc.
I suffered from bloating and gassy for years, certain foods made me really bad and then constipation was always so bad, I had sever constipation. I had ovarian cysts removed and my gallbladder removed due to bad gallstones :( eventually they diagnosed me 10 months ago.
My daughter didnt have major symptoms but she was constipated alot as a baby and was gassy quite a bit, both kids had the blood test and my daughter was positive too.
I do miss wholegrains and oats :( makes my diet even trickier.
I also have a problem with nightshades too.. and get headaches from soy, like I said I have suffered mutiple food intolerances for so long. The vegan diet is my next hope.
