I have been a flirting vegan for about 4 years (vegetarian long before that). The first time I had tofu cream cheese I thought it was foul and vowed to never touch it again (this was 4 years ago).
I committed to being vegan the month of January (I've had a couple slips...but probably going strong at 90%) and this morning I had a bagel with veggie tofu cream cheese from the Brooklyn Bagel Company in Astoria, Queens - I cannot even TELL you how fantastic it tasted! Like real cream cheese! Either this stuff was really amazing and not like the tofutti I remember, or by not eating so much dairy my tastebuds are reacclimating.
My next step will be to re-try nutritional yeast, which I also despised years ago...
I have been vegan for 1 1/2 years and I can say the same.
I used to hate avacados, now I adore them, eat them almost daily. I was never crazy for beans, now they are my best friends. But, still don't like vegan cream cheese. I can eat the vegan sour cream in small amounts.
nutritional yeast, yum.
The more you eat it the more used to the taste you get. I like how I feel after eating my tacos with vegan sour cream. I used to get a stomache ache after eating tacos with meat, cheese and real sour cream. Feeling great after eating really makes the taste seem insignificant!
I noticed the same thing, foods on my no eat list included cooked leafy vegetables, mushrooms, and oranges, and now I can do all three.
I put real oranges frozen in my smoothies (still not a juice fan, too sugary!).
I put mushrooms in stir frys and love cooked leafies.
I thought I would eventually learn to love Tofutti cream cheese after being vegan for awhile...but 2 years later, I still am not a fan. It tastes nasty to me! Nowadays, I go for Earth Balance, nut butters, hummus, or white bean spreads on my bagels :-)
