I'm having trouble grasping the concept of having bigger portions and still losing weight. I'm just curious what the portions should look like because I've worked so hard to lose weight and just because I've started the super hero diet I don't want to go crazy with portions and gain the weight back. Thanks for all your help!
hey stacy! Just remember that before, you were concerned because the food you were putting in your body was probably processed and unkind and your body didn't know what to do with it, so it stored it! Now, you are being kind to your body and eating to nourish and cleanse your body - I do 40-50% grains, 40% vegetables, and 10-20 % pickles, beans, etc. I eat until I'm full, but not stuffed. I only eat fruit a few times a week and cut out soy milk etc., I balance acid vs. alkyline foods, and I've been doing this 2 weeks and along with working out, have lost 5 lbs! Remember that the more you put it & the more you chew, the more nourishment you will get out of your food for your body to function at its maximum potential :) It can use everything you put into it now. The grains are WHOLE grains, no additives so it's not like before where there were a million other ingredients your body didn't know what to do with. The more nourishment you get with the right balance, the better your body will respond so pack it with bigger portions of better food :) Try reading modern day macrobiotics by Simon Brown - it helped me tremendously understand macrobiotics to its fullest and customize it to my body! Hope this helped!
I agree with futuredc22. I found the longer I ate this way, the less food I ate. Or, maybe I just eat lots of small meals/snacks all day. If you are eating strictly superhero, you shouldn't have a problem. I eat mainly local fruit, veggies, brown rice, and beans. When I started eating this way, I checked out so many recipe books from the local library and searched for easy/quick recipes that fit the superhero way of eating.
Great post futuredc22! I too feel like I am eating "lots" and the weight has just fallen off of me. It really makes a difference if you are eating "food" or processed/refined things that look like food. I would like to read more on macrobiotics. Thanks for the recommendation.
I consume huge portions. I often need two large plates to hold my lunch. These foods are naturally rich in fiber and low in calories so expect to eat a lot and loose weight simultaneously.
Great advice. Initially, I ate a lot more, and was hungry more often. I have not watched portions or counted calories, and I have lost 34 pounds thus far. If you want to lose weight, cut down on, or completely out if you can, processed soy products and other veggie goodies except as an occasional treat. Like futuredc22, I don't eat a lot of fruit either, though I do usually have one peice a day. My portions are at least 50% veg if not more, 25% or so grains, then maybe some beans, seeds, healthy condiments.
Like IslandGirl, a few weeks ago I noticed how much less I'm eating now. Justin must have a crazy metabolism!!, but I think that now my body is absorbing nutrients more efficiently and it therefore needs less food, but it's taken about 3 months to get to that point. Now, I'm working with changing my mind set because my mind wants to eat more food because it seems like I should, but my body is like 'No, I'm full and satisfied, stop eating already!' even though I've only had half to two-thirds of what I used to eat, and I rarely feel hungry enough to have a between meal snack anymore (and if I am hungry, that's usually when I have that one piece of fruit). It's crazy!
Have lots of veggies, chew your food well, listen to your body to hear if it's really hungry or not.
@Hazel- I completely agree! Suddenly I'm satisfied so easily. I look at my food and think to myself that it's not much (and believe me, before i could hammer it down), but it most definitely fuels my body with what I need! I don't eat much processed food anymore either, except for pasta, bread, and ocassionally tofu, and party food that I try to impress non-vegans with!
Oh and Stacy, I see you wrote this back in January. Updates?
I admire everyone for going superhero, i have no problem with vegan but i can't seem to make the jump. I do eat some meals superhero but never whole day. I am got the hip chicks macro book a couple weeks ago and I so want to do it. I have trouble with no daiya, no chocolate, no caffeine, and limited sugar....help !!! I would like to start again Monday (what do they say, never quit quitting????
Cheryl, you can try kicking everything else, but allow the caffeine for a few weeks. It might help you stick with it easier if it's not all at once.
I feel like I eat loads, yet the calories never add up to where they ought to be for "normal" weight loss. For the first time in my life, I am having an issue with undereating -.-
