Hey Everyone!I thought you would be a community that would like to know about some great documentaries that are out there... and I was hoping that you all had some that I could hunt down too!! The last few I have watched and really enjoyed: -Blue Gold, World Water Wars-Addicted to Plastic-The Corporation-Crude Awakening-Peak Oil-End of Suburbia-King of Kong (so funny...) And I am sure I will remember more as I go!Please let me know which ones I should be watching!! -Britt
WATCH THE COVE!!!!!! :) Besides Food Inc, I think it's one of the most incredible documentaries to address the food industry, the environment, and animal rights all in one. So sad, but so vastly insightful.
Great thread Brittany! I am looking forward to checking out your suggestions. I need to get my doc game up! I've seen Peaceable Kingdom, I Am An Animal, and Meet Your Meat. They are all really intense and disturbing as hell. But I gotta tell ya I've been vegan for over 2 years and I've never had to fight off a single craving. I went vegan "cold turkey" after watching I Am An Animal and it wasn't even a challenge. I think the images from these documentaries were so powerful that it just crushed any pleasure I once experienced from eating animal products. And for 8 years I was one of those vegetarians who thought I could NEVER give up cheese.
Earthlings was the one that made me seriously question what I was doing, and it pushed me to go veg, and my wife to go vegan. Now we eat vegan most of the time, but like you said Lea, cheese is the tough one to give up.
Earthlings is the single most upsetting thing I've ever seen but I'm glad I watched it. If I hadn't already decided to go vegan I would have after seeing that.
The Corporation is very good. It shows how these big companies have absolutely no accountability or responsibility and share the same character traits as sociopaths.
The Future of Food is a very enlightening doc about gentically modified seeds that makes you want to buy only organic food from your local co-op.
McLibel shows how McDonalds bullied these 2 british greenpeace members and how they fought the fast food giant in court.
Supersize Me - I'm sure everyone has seen this one. The fries that just will not rot in the extras freaks me out.
Meet your Meat - very graphic and very upsetting but needs to be shown.
Your Mommy Kills Animals - waste of a documentary. I did like seeing the Shac 7 but I would have liked a lot more details about the case. If the filmakers goal was to show both sides of the animal rights argument he failed miserably.
Blind Spot - Hiltler's Secretary - one on one interview with Traudl Jung in German with english subtitles. Interesting and it's only at the end of the interview that you see that she realizes she did anything wrong.
Forgiving Dr. Mengele - one of the twins used in Mengele's sick twisted experiments and how she had to learn to forgive the nazis to be able to be at peace with herself.
I bought Food Inc but haven't watched it yet. I want to get Peaceable Kingdom whenever it gets re-released (they are having money problems and asking for donations). I love documentaries and will keep an eye on this thread for some good recommendations.
