Excessive Thirst

Has anyone experiencing increased thirst when beginning the vegan diet? I thought it would decrease without eating all the meat products, but it has increased. I'm having to fill my 20oz water bottle 6-7 times a day.
Have you increased your activity since becoming vegan? The thirst could be your body wanting to be hydrated. Also certain spices that you may or may not be using stimulate the thirst urge(like garlic, onions, spicy foods, etc.) Another reason for excessive thirst is high blood sugar. If you have been experiencing these symptoms for some time, you may want to check your blood sugar levels(I know cause it happened to me! :)
Hi Kelly, I'm always pretty thirsty but I definitely feel more thirsty now just because it's winter. Also, if you've added more soy sauce or miso that could be creating thirst. When I eat sushi I feel so thirsty it's like I'm "hung over" from drinking alcohol.
I have resumed working out and am using soy sauce more, but I will also check my blood sugar just to be on the safe side. Thanks for the input.
Kelly.... Is the excesive thirst like a dry stick that seems to be caught right in front of your throat? When swallowing, it just seems to move a bit - dryly - and laugh heartily at the water that whooshes past?
I had that. And then, it occurred to me, that is where my thyroid lives. I know that when changing a diet - it can make various juices (hormones, enzymes, etc.) get topsy-turvy for a while.
This is going to sound completly lunatic...but what helped was saying, actually - out loud - "Hello, Thyroid." Accompany this greeting with warm and fuzzy thoughts about your thyroid, what it might look like. If you are feeling a bit brave, you could apologize for not ever really noticing it before.
I swear...this helps. (along with water consumption) Of course, coming from the woman who now has nighmares about meat and dairy - you may want to consult a professional before taking this advice (haha)...
