I tried a new (to me) restauant called OZU that Alicia recommended in one of her first posts. It was amazing. I ordered take out last night and had the Lotus Root Kimpura. So yummy and unique. It's great to finally know what it tastes and looks like. It's like nothing I've ever had.
I still don't think they actually sell it any stores on UWS but when I can find the time to actually leave my neighborhood I'll venture downtown.
I've found lotus root in the Health Nuts on Broadway and 99th Street. And yeah, Ozu is great. Mana, a few blocks north on Amsterdam (around 92nd Street) is really good as well.
Thanks Laura. I didn't realize there still was a Health Nuts up there since the one in the 70's shut down. Very good to know. I'll walk up there at some point this week. Also, my husband was just saying we should try Mana because we're tired of trying to make Land work for us. As a matter of fact, the last time I ordered a vegetarian entree from land I ended up with a piece of chicken in it. :(( blech.
Thanks for the recommendations!
You're welcome! The only really good West Side organic restaurant I've found with vegan and vegetarian options is Josie's on Amsterdam and 74th Street but it's pricey. Peacefood on 82nd and Amsterdam is vegan and very good. Their vegan baked goods are dangerous!
Yes, I love Josie's! So good, but you're right....very pricey. We had to stop going there with the kids because it was just a ridiculous amount to spend on a family lunch.
I need to try more of Peacefood. So far I've only tried their juices and once I got a soup. Do you ever get them for dinner? Is it that type of place or do you feel like it's more of a casual lunch spot? We tried to go there last Saturday when it was beautiful weather and it was way too crowded so we skipped it.
Have gone there for dinner and it was fine but it's got a very casual feel. Probably a good place to bring kids for lunch/dinner if it's not too crowded. Service is a bit pokey, even when you're ordering take-out but they're very friendly.
