Calf and foot cramps

I have noticed since I stopped eating meats and trying to head towards a vegan lifestyle that I have been having a lot of calf and foot cramps (charlie horses) I have been on a lot of meds for some time now and slowing but not completely off them. Steriods, prednisone, antibiotics, inhalers, singulair, enablex, protonix. Wondering if it's all these meds that are doing it or I'm not getting enough potassium in my food choices? I started eating a banana with my breakfast oats. Does anyone else have any thoughts and has anyone experienced this as well. Thanks Shelley

The body can't handle too much sodium if potassium is low. You can try reducing salt to see if that helps along with increasing potassium.

Hi Sarah and Justin. The bananas do seem to be helping with the cramps. I have found just by cutting out meat for the last couple weeks that I taste an awful lot of salt in my mouth like I've been eating salt blocks...lol...guess my body is releasing all the salt from the processed foods I have eating for so long along. Also I just stopped most of my meds per doctor's instructions and that seems to be helping as well. I have never done well on meds. Kind of a "The cure is worse than the ailment deal". Also I found too that I find the seitan seems salty to me so I have cut back on that as well as using the shoyu for the tempeh. Hopefully that helps. Thanks for your help and suggestions :)
