Hi, I just signed up to this website today. Happened to catch info of this book on Oprah today while sick at home and it kind of piqued my curiousity. I have small issues with my health that are more of an inconvenience. I was diagnosed with IBS about 7 years ago and then within the last year, I was diagnosed with painful bladder syndrome. Neither of these 2 medical issues can be "cured" I take meds for them most every day. So, when I was watching the tv and Alicia was explaining the health benefits, I was just thinking that maybe this would make my issues a little easier to deal with. Has anyone had either of these 2 issues and with being vegan, have you noticed a positive change? Any feedback would be great. Thanks in advance for any help!

hi
i have had tummy troubles for years and years...i stopped eating dairy like 8 yrs ago when i was 16...kinda allergic but nothing was ever actually found in tests. werid! i went through bummer times when i couldn't eat raw veggies, fruits, soy, anything fried.and eventually meat. when i stopped eating meat on a naturopath-directed cleanse, and my tummy troubles were gone...

i have been on and off with it for a few years now but have been solid with it for a while now. took my body adjusting, but i don't have digestion problems now..

found out more about the facts and the industry with this book and 'eating animals' and 'food inc' ...and that helped my motivation 10FOLD big time. this book is awesome! recipes are great, inspiring info to share with others...to back up your choices and health...etc...

soo i would really think this could help your ibs...i was told i had that too but i didn't believe it existed ..sounded suspect to me..so i kept investigating for myself and experimenting for a better answer.

Thanks for replying. I will most likely be heading up to the bookstore over the weekend to purchase the book and dive in and see if this is the right path for me. I've never been good on eating right, so maybe this book will help motivate me.

Hi Cat, So far, it is an amazing book! I was diagnosed with IBS two years ago which I took as a mission to figure out what was REALLY going on. I went to an amazing Holistic doctor who helped me figure out what was really wrong. After a blood test through Alcat (you can google the company) and some other tests, she established that I was allergic to gluten which is wheat, barley and rye. I am also allergic to dairy, turkey, pork and some other foods that I ate ALL the time! I had no idea! She said I could work almost everything back in my diet in time except for the gluten, which will always effect me. I am not sure I want to work all of these foods back in my diet though. This book has been an eye opener. Read it and then try and get tested for gluten or other food allergies. If you can go to an integrative medicine doctor in your town, they will get down to it faster instead of giving you the pills! I hope that helped! Let me know if you have any questions! Lauren

Thanks for your response Lauren! A friend of mine had said something to me about doing the test to see if i have the thing where you can't have gluten. She cannot have gluten in her food. I don't think I have that. But, I think about how hard it must be for our bodies to process meat and wonder if it's something that I really need. I haven't purchased the book yet but over the last few days I haven't eaten meat, just to see. I've never really been one to crave meat anyway, I think I could take it or leave it. Cheese on the other hand, will probably be harder. So I'm going to try to take it in stages. Another issue I have is with changing to this new lifestyle, how easy/hard will it be to find these ingredients? We have a whole foods store up the road so I'm going to make a visit this week. I just want to feel good, you know? I can't recall the last time I've gone a single day without my stomach hurting. And add to that my bladder issues, it's like, I'm only 31 and I just worry if things will only be worse 10 yrs from now. Anyway, sorry for rambling and thanks for the encouragement. I'm kind of excited to see if this book and new lifestyle will make me finally feel centered.

I am planning to doing the Quantum Wellness 21 day cleanse which is pretty much a vegan diet cutting out caffeine and sugar as well for 21 days! So right now I am just "flirting" as Alicia says! Vegan foods are actually great! There is a bar in the gluten free section of WF called Pure and they are soooo good! All fruit and nuts! I feel your pain with the stomach issues and have noticed in the past 3 days that I have cut out meat and dairy that my stomach doesn't hurt! A LOT of people are allergic to dairy and if you read Alicia's book you will see that our bodies really aren't meant to drink or eat dairy products. I promise you will get over the cheese when you find other items to snack on! Good luck!!!!!Lauren
