I know alicia said follow your heart was good but i cant find it. im going to trader joes this weekend. does anyone have any suggestions for what i should get there?? its far away so i only make it up there every other week. there is a whole foods right next to it too.
i also need quick easy meal ideas. i work ten hours and my hour break is not long enough to get food near by.
I would say get 'Daiya Cheese' at Whole Foods. (Trader Joe's doesn't really have casein-free cheeses). I dont really like 'follow your heart' cheeses...
I love veggie chili from tjoes!! it tastes awesome with some chips!
also, get Amy's vegan frozen entrees! She makes awesome ones. But make sure it says dairy free cuz some of them are not.
I also like getting rice crackers, hummus, and cucumbers. Then do balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and salt for the cucumbers. Its a great filling snack and you can get everything at tjoes. (just dip the cracker in the hummus then place the drenched cucumber on it and devour!) :)
Hope these tips help.
Trader Joe's has vegan Indian food in pouches that you just heat up in boiling water. Super easy and delicious!
Hummus & carrots & pita
Tofu to add to veggie stir frys
Earth Balance buttery spread
Whole Grain bread
Soy Chocolate Ice Cream Sandwiches - soooo good!
Tomato sauce - read the label to make sure there is no cheese in it
Pasta
Pesto - again, read to make sure no cheese
All the veggies you can eat :)
thanks guys!! i cant wait to try this stuff out!
Thanks for sharing that sandwich idea Arianne...I will definitely try that one!
I just discovered coconut bliss chocolate ice cream- amazingly good! (of course that's not really a real lunch)
Avocado/mushroom sushi rolls made with quinoa- super easy and sooo good (I found the recipe in "The conscious Cook")- you can make a bunch the night before and have them for lunch the next couple days. Pairing them with sweet potato fries or a quick mango salad (mango, white onion, parsley, orange bell pepper, lime juice) is one of my favorite lunches. Or pick up some seaweed salad to go with it.
Falafel with tahini sauce, lettuce and tomato is great b/c you can make a big batch divide up and use through the week or freeze in individual servings.
Cashew cream is my newest staple. I love creamy sauces and have been experimenting with making cashew cream (soak in water over night, put in blender, add new water until at or just above cashews and blend until smooth). I like slow cooking mushrooms and onions, them mixing in cashew cream cooking it just a bit on med low until it thickens up. It's great hot or cold, alone or in a wrap with some added veggies (I'm a sucker for zucchini).
Plus, not only does it cook up great, but I blend it with chocolate, strawberries and a little juice for a quick smoothie.
Have you checked out the post punk kitchen cook book? It has a lot of easy, quick recipes that are great for lunches.
