I am new to this website, and very excited to be joining! I am 25 years old. I have been vegetarian for 14 years, and have been vegan on and off for the last few years. I have a 6 month old son at home who is just starting to eat solid foods. My fiance (who is a meat-eater and says he will never change! haha) and I have decided to start out raising our son vegetarian. If and when he is old enough to start making decisions for himself, he decides to eat meat, I will accept that even though I will never eat it.
I am wondering if anyone else out there is raising vegan or vegetarian children? Also, does anyone have any suggestions for good books or websites on vegan/vegetarian children?
Hi Kaitlyn! Wow, we have similar stories! I'm vegetarian and my husband (who is a meat eater) and I are raising our son vegan. I bought the cook Raising your vegan with confidence by Sandra Hood. I've really found it to be helpful. The author is a registered dietician so it helped to put my mind at ease making sure my son (and I) get everything we need. She breaks down everything from pre-conception until elderly age. All of the vitamins and minerals are discussed and food options are given. Hope this helps!
i am so excited as well. i have six kids and my husband is a meat and potatoes guy. the kids are mostly vegetarian (as i have been for some time), but making them wholly vegan has scared me. pediatricians frown upon me! i will buy the book you suggested.... and we can all trade secrets along the way!!! :)
It ENRAGES me that we get frowned upon.... It should totally be the opposite! Almost all of the compliments I get come from Vegans. I'm trying so hard to feed my son the best foods, and I get a lot of negative comments. Makes me sad!
