Has anyone found a good substitute for tamari/shoyu?I can eat tofu/tempeh in modest amounts, but tamari in particular gives me hives. I've been told marmite is a good vegan substitute. Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm also curious about this! I am allergic to many animal products as well as soy, so it's really difficult for me to get my protein. Not to mention I've been living in my University residence the past few years without a kitchen, and campus food is less than varied. I'm hoping somebody has some good tips about what to substitute for things like tofu and tempeh in Alicia's recipes :)

try seitan . its made from wheat gluten. or just have legumes chickpeas (try hummus, falafel, roasted chickpeas with seasoning as a snack), kidney beans, lentils, black beans, etc.... tofu is very versatile its true but if you cant have it you cant. nuts also contain alot of protein-eg peanuts, almonds, etc can help up your protein intake.

I'm not able to eat soy OR wheat, and have been relying on different beans at lunch and dinner. Have not found a tamari substitute, I have just been making different sauces based on tahini/coconut milk and different vinegars and olive oil. Am also curious if anyone has a good idea!!!
