Meeting calcium needs for toddlers

I have two toddlers (ages 2 and 3) and rely heavily on milk and yogurt for calcium needs. My pediatrician told me that soy milk does not provide calcium well enough to meet their needs. Any suggestions? I can't exactly get them to embrace eating green leafy vegetables!

Try adding the greens to fruit smoothies. The sweetness masks the taste of spinach

Hi Paula, you are asking a question that I have also thought alot about! I have twin 3 year olds who love cows milk, so to try and break away from that heavy reliance on dairy I've been giving them protein and calcium enriched rice milk with chocolate powder mixed in to make the transition a little easier. I've also been making my own almond milk, which they have sometimes too.
I hope this helps!!!

Hi Paula,
We have an almost 3 year old who was a huge milk drinker. She is now drinking almond milk, calcium enriched orange juice (sometimes), she eats almond butter instead of peanut butter, we do allot of hummus for dipping of raw veggies and in wraps. She occasionally has tofu and soy yogurt and is really into dried fruits right now.

It hard cause one day she is totally into one thing and the next she's turning up her nose at it.

As a back up we are also giving her a calcium supplement , Yummy Bears is the brand we use.

Good luck! smiley-smile.gif
It's a daily battle over here, but we are doing the best we can and hoping that she is getting what she needs.
