Hello all, new "almost" vegan from Montreal. Been vegetarian since November, doing the Wii fit religiously since Christmas, even gave up alcohol and haven't lost one ounce!!!!! Has anyone else been slow to see the results? I'm getting a wee discouraged.............though this book has relit the fire!! BTW, how do you put a photo in the smiley face next to the name???
Hello everyone. I'm also finding some good subs for most of the items I used to eat and some new awesome itesms as well. I have lost about 10 pounds since going Vegan. I have given up coffee and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
Christina did you get headaches once you stopped the cafeeine? And for how many days did they last?
Ranete, my headaches only lasted a couple of days.
Welcome to all the newbies! I was a newbie back in November, and I am still loving the vegan lifestyle today! I know how tough the transition can be. I started a blog to help me get my feelings out and to offer my experiences with going vegan. If anyone is interested, please check it out:

I write about the problems I run into, as well as offer recipes that have really helped me out. I am the only vegan in a meat-eating household, so I also offer things that have helped me deal with that and get through it.
Good luck to all! Veganism really is a wonderful thing!
To all the Vegan newbies out there, I have some advice. I thought I was going to have a hard time cutting out dairy. I am lactotse intolerant, and I still loves dairy. But, I started to think about being vegan different. Dont think of it as cutting food OUT of your diet, but ADDING FOOD INto your diet. I started to try new things I never even thought about eating, and now I would chose the new foods over the old ones any day.
Another word of advice, Dont go on a soy binge. Soy is really great to have on hand for cooking, etc. However, if the other women in your family has had any genetic hormonal issues, soy might not be for you. Do your reading on this! AND when you eat some of the same foods every day its easier for your body to develope an intolerance to those foods. And in america you dont want to be soy intolerent.
Good luck, keep reading, try new foods, and GOOD LUCK!
Wow!! I haven't been able to log on in a few days and it is great to see so many people talking....Woohoo!! Who knew being vegan could be so much FUN!! I found another great book too that has supplemented Alicia - called Vegan Planet. I haven't really missed anything, but I do have to eat more regularly and ahve something prepared b/c I notice that I have less will power if I wait too long and can make bad decisions...Funny - I could NEVER do that on a "diet", but this way I can. I am struggling to fight off a cold at the moment, but I am trying to eat my azuki beans...LOVE THEM and miso....good lord...never thought I would say I ate seaweed....Keep sharing!!!
Hi Rebecca, did you say you have the beans with the miso?
I agree sd86 !! I switched from organic milk to unsweetened vanilla almond milk. We don't do a bunch of soy b/c I have 2 sons & believe it to be a gender-bender (mimics estrogen in the body) & also b/c I'm hypo-thyroid & on meds. I'm also PISSED OFF after watching "food, inc." & finding out about the bio-engineered soy bean & how the big company is literally running the farmers' farms or running them out of business (and preventing them from harvesting their own seeds!) I won't use anything that has a bio-eng. soy bean..
