Hi All not sure if this is where I was to go to ask this question but here goes. As I'm reading Alica's book on page 76 she talks about taking B12 once of twice a week but how much is not stated unless it is later on in the book. Does anyone know how much? She suggests low dose under the tongue or veggie cap. Thanks for the help :)

I'm not actually sure how much, but I thought i'd let you know this... you can get b12 shots one a month (or however much is prescribed to you) from your local naturopathic doctor. I found this much easier than taking a huge pill each day. Now that i'm eating a vegan diet i'm going to look into it again, especially since she was able to give me the right amount that I needed.

We take a sublingual B12 everyday that is one mL under the tongue. Most people can go about 3 years without having a problem with B12 or needing to get it checked, and some people can go the rest of their lives. B12 is extremely important however, so you should get it checked after 3 years of being completely vegan.

I did find something out very interesting today when I went to my local organic market. I wanted to pick up some B12 and there were so many. I find I take much longer now in stores cause I read every label. I found lots of the B12's had sorbitol in it. YIKES! Even one of the girls helping me who is Vegan found out the one she was taking for years that changed companies I guess also now put sorbitol in hers. She was shocked as I was. I spoke to the owner who was great and also Vegan and he directed me to Solgar's veggie caps which are very small Daniella. I have a hard time too swallowing big pills. The ones the girl used for years who now is going to change because of the sorbitol was one you put under the tongue with a dropper so please everyone when you are looking for a B12 read the label it might have more in it than you thought of Nasties. I got the 500 mcg and will take one per day. Hope it helps me and the info I found out helps some of you as well. Especially when companies change and you don't think they'd change the product but they sneak a nasty in there without you knowing.

Been taking vitamin b12 supplement for years already, and the results are quite good. Got mine from http://products.mercola.com/vitamin-b12-spray/ Its a bit pricey but well worth the benefits. smiley-laughing.gif

Don't buy vitamins at grocery or drug stores. They are absolutely worthless. And most brands of vitamins even at health food stores are worthless but you'll know when you find a good one. Look for whole food supplements whenever possible. For B12 I use the sublingual liquid made by Solgar. I found it at a local health food store after trying several other drug store and natural food store brands that did nothing.

The first year I was vegan I didn't know about the B12 thing, so I didn't take a supplement. Almost a year to the day, my chiropractor noticed that the skin around my lips was cracked and peeling. I had thought my lips were chapped because it was January and I'd been outside a lot. He informed me I had a B12 deficiency and it would be hard to replenish myself. So I tried a bunch of different brands, like I said before, and nothing helped. My skin got really gross and painful. After about four months, I found the B12 supplement from Solgar and my skin cleared up within three days, seriously. Within a month I felt like a million bucks. I've used it every day since.

Hi Veggiegal7 I have had the same experience trying different brands. I too use solgar but in sblingual in tablet form. I'm still having trouble with cracked lips as well and figured it was just the cold since it seems to happen to me every winter but maybe I need to try the liquid instead. Thanks for your help

Shelley - I'm so glad you read my post then! I have had much better success with the liquid than the tablet. I hope you do, too! :D

I would suggest you to take the suggestion of dietition to ask about its intake. It would be more good.
