Afraid of Carbs....

I'm on day 5 of my vegan diet, this is not my first foray into vegannism, I was a vegan for five years during my teen years. By the end of it I had put on a good bit of excess weight. I wasn't eating whole foods then, a lot of processed soy etc but the experience has left me really nervous about the amount of carbs I'm eating. I'm a heavy excerciser, but I've always struggled with that last five pounds and eating sooo many whole grains totally goes against my previous weight loss thought process (high protein/low carb). Words of wisedom? Thoughts?
Someone posted a similar concern a few days ago that I responded to as well. The bottom line is that you have to eat the right carbs--no white rice or white pasta, nothing that is processed. Brown rice is my savior! The fiber that is in these whole grains will help you keep weight off and even lose it. As I mentioned previously, my husband has lost a lot of weight and I have maintained a great weight all while consuming huge amounts of brown rice and other whole grains. Stay away from white! Also, processed foods are not good which is why I think there are a lot of vegan who are still overweight.
