I made the oatmeal walnut and dried plum cookies this morning, and they had a really strange after taste. I don't have a lot of experience with vegan baking so I'm wondering if anyone had a similar problem?

I made them this morning and they have a slight baking soda aftertaste. Also mine flattened out like pancakes and pretty much fall apart when I pick them up.

Hey everyone, I made a few adjustments to the oatmeal cookies, and they were a big, big hit with the non vegan family! I changed the 3/4 cups all purpose flour with 1 cup of spelt (if it is really hot in your kitchen you might want to add an additional 1/4 cup of spelt also), and added some sprinkles of ground cloves and cinnamon and added a handful of raisins as the dried fruit. These came out perfectly! I didn't have any problems with the baking soda with this alteration. Hope this helps!

(sorry, one more thing!) I also make them smaller, I make the rounded balls into closer to teaspoon sized, not tablespoon sized, that may have helped them not turning into pancakes also, so give that a try, just make the balls of dough smaller before baking! And don't worry, the teaspoon sized really comes out to a nice cookie size, not too small at all.

Mine got really flat too but were super delicious! You need to let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, otherwise they will fall apart if you move them too quickly. Definitely don't give up on this recipe yet!
