i currently live on long island NY and was having a hard time buying local vegetables because all of the farmstands close during the winter months. thanks to a friend that i work with i joined a winter farm share at a local organic farmstand. once a month we pick up our box of veggies that were grown at the farm.
i had never even heard of a farm share before, and at first the 6 month price tag seemed a little high. now it is our favorite time of the month because we get fresh veggies even in the winter. my favorite part is not knowing what you are going to get until you pick it up and figuring out how to cook and eat all these new foods. so far my "experiments" have been all good... it really is a treat to get to venture out of your comfort zone (kale was my biggest challange but reading recipes here helped!)
so i just wanted to share this little tip because it has made my winter months a little easier... i am signing up for the summer shares next month too : )
