Re-heating sans microwave

I'm not quite sure how to use this site quite yet but this seems like the best way to ask a question... =)
I love that Alicia mentions tossing her microwave in the book, as I have been a long-time non-fan of them! I re-heat all the things I possibly can in the oven or toaster, but I've never tried to re-heat, rice, for example, in a saucepan as she says she does...seems to me that would only make it taste burnt or very dry at the least...but I also feel that using oil would just make it oily? Anyone know how to do it?

I actually did this exact thing in the microwave not 5 minutes ago, haha, but it works on the stove too...
When I reheat rice, I usually just put some water in there (a few little handfuls, maybe 1/4 cup) and then cover it while its heating. It makes it really steamy in the pan and rehydrates the rice nicely. Also, if you have some veggies or something with some kind of sauce in there, that helps too.
Good luck :)

This is what I've been wondering about too. I still do use my microwave for reheating sometimes depending on what I"m eating. Eg, if it's soup, I would definitely use the stove to reheat, but let's say I'm having rice, beans, veggies, I haven't really thought of a good way to reheat. Sometimes I just eat them cold to avoid the microwave which is no fun.
