On the Dr Oz show I watched today (DVR'd from earlier this week) he showed firefighters from one station with terrible eating habits, cholesterol & weight ... & he connected them to Rip Esselstein (the firefighter who wrote "Engine 2 diet Plan" who put them on a new eating plan effective immediately: no dairy or eggs, & no meat OR fish. I also saw the episode Alicia referred to, with Rocco the cowboy who was put on similar diet by Dr Oz. Things are turning around! i hope those guys can stick to it like Rocco did ! It'll save their lives too !

WOW.. good for you Lea. I'm considering myself a flirt, b/c I just read the book & am getting my ducks in a row & buying what I need. I am meat free & dairy free for several days now, & today was the first day with no Splenda in my coffee. I felt satisfied & not hungry most of the day though, which was wonderful ! I'm having trouble finding Shoyu & a couple of the other ingredients common in the recipes. We have absolutely no vegan restaurants anywhere near here. Keep up the good work !

Michelle - Shoyu is just the Japanese word for soy sauce. If you can't actually find shoyu, a good quality soy sauce should work. Personally, I prefer tamari. I just back off on the amount in some recipes because tamari is stronger than shoyu. Have you tried an asian grocery? Not sure where you live,

Thanks for clearing up the Shoyu mystery for me. Now maybe I can take another look at some of those recipes.
