I just tried this recipe and burned the mochi, any body know what a heat deflector for a stove looks like? I googled but did not find anything....

A heat deflector is a metal plate that spreads out the heat, used on a gas stove. Instead of frying, I like to bake the mochi. No oil needed, just cut into 1 inch squares and bake for about 7 to 8 minutes at 450 degrees. I use a toaster oven instead of heating up the entire oven.

I've known them as heat diffusers. You should be able to see them if you search on that term.
