Hi Kind Lifers!
I'm walking the Superhero line as much as possible, but I still want to go out to the bar with friends. I know that alcohol is extremely yin and so not ideal in the macrobiotic lifestyle, but of the alcoholic options which is least detrimental? Wine? Beer? Liquor? I love my wine!
Just a fair warning on drinking alcohol based on my experience. I had been on TKD for about 3 weeks and then had a glass and a half of wine. The next morning I woke up with the hangover of all hangovers.
For me it seems that once you clear out those pathways for nutrition to be absorbed it makes the alcohol that much quicker to be absorbed too.
I can honestly say that I have no desire right now to drink.
Ditto, Jill. I haven't been able to handle more than a few sips of wine after going superhero. I do love my organic red wine though :( It's the only alcohol i'll drink.
...and to really harsh your mellow, may I add http://barnivore.com/a site (there are several) that lists which beer/wine/alcohol is actually vegan - believe it or not, many are manufactured with animal products! Kinda falls under the category of "I wish I didn't know that...."

In her book, The Balanced Plate, Renee Loux also has a recipe for a Sllver Mint Mojit with sake and optional tequila (which comes from agave). (The book also includes many great macro recipes and a good description of macrobiotics).
Also, I'm not sure how many bars have organic sulfite free wine.
I noticed that even though I wasn't superhero I didn't feel really stellar after I had drinks headache large..boo tell me coors light is vegan please lol
I asked my macrobiotic counselor that same question. She said that certain organic beers and Sake was the best for you on terms of doing the least damage to your body. I must say that I LOVE sake. Having a small sake has just enough alcohol to get me nice and buzzed and if you buy a good brand, it still retains certain minerals that help your body properly digest the alcohol. I have never gotten a hangover from sake. Do remember to drink water after you drink anything though. A hangover is dehydration. Also, whenever I go out drinking, in the morning I ALWAYS have a fresh green juice. If I do have a hangover that juice just kicks its ass. Hope this helped :)
