Hi everyone! About three weeks ago, after a lifetime of being a carnivore, my body started CRAVING fruits, veggies, legumes... After a few days of loading up on big green salads, veggie Japanese food, and roasted yams and whole grains, I started feeling GREAT. In the past, vegetarian meals had left me feeling unsatisfied, like I was just waiting for the next mealtime to fill up on animal products. But suddenly, something was different. I spent the next few weeks continuing to steer clear of meat, and was surprised by my new excitement about each meal I ate, because of all the new options that lie before me. They had been there all along, of course, but I simply hadn't considered them. At first I thought "I don't want to label this, or say/think I'm no longer eating meat," but after passing up a shrimp and turning down a slice of chicken in favor of mounds of leafy spinach and earthy mushrooms and sweet snowpeas, I realized that I wanted to try.
I joined this community a few months ago because I have always admired Alicia's activism, and just love her warmth and joyful spirit. I was interested in her new book and community, but wasn't quite sure it was right for me. Now, I'm feeling ready. I bought The Kind Diet this morning, and am going to read it this weekend. My on-and-off of Atkins dieting boyfriend is shockingly supportive, and rather than dwell on the possible obstacles ahead--how will I host dinner parties, will family dinners be as fun, what about the company Christmas event?, I'm trying to take it one day at a time and have fun. We can cook for our gluten-free friends now! I can go to Souen all the time, and make dinner dates with my vegetarian friends...
I'm so excited to explore this lifestyle further, and get more info from this awesome community. Thanks, everyone!
