This month's issue of Runner's World features an article on Scott Jurek, one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) ultra marathoners of all time... and he's vegan!! The article didn't go into too much detail about Scott's veganism, but it was really cool to see someone logging hundreds of miles on a vegan diet. You can read more about Scott here: www.scottjurek.com
Hi Stephanie, I saw this article as well and I agree it's great to see successful marathoners on a vegan diet. As a runner myself, and since going veg two months ago, I have felt so much better during my runs and my overall energy level has been great. Happy Running!
I second that! I am a runner as well and suffered some medical set backs.... this led to a real slump in the training. I started switching to a vegan life style and I'm feeling better now than before i got sick. and my training has improved tremendously! As a runner, I was referred to a great resource, Thrive by Brendan Brazier. check it out if you can....very helpful. Susan
For all you runners interested in running a marathon this year: The ING NYC Marathon will be held on November 7, 2010. They are currently accepting applications, as are the partner oganizations, all of which are looking to fundraise for a good cause. UNICEF is one of those organizations. Money you raise will give children the clean water, food, medicines, vaccines and protection they need to survive. A friend of mine is leading the coordination of this event, for more details: http://volunteers.unicefusa.org/nyc-marathon.html
