Hey all,I noticed that there was a thread for half marathon runners, but admittedly I'm not there yet. I have decided to start training towards a 5k since I get an urge to run every so often. There is something about it that is freeing and empowering. I would like to lose some weight and tone up so I'm working on a schedule for running training, strength training and then a few cardio workouts thrown in there with one day of rest. Now, the tricky part is I'm not sure what all I should be eating. I read somewhere that you can calculate your calorie intake and then divide it so that 50% of calories comes from carbs, 25% from protein and 25% from fat. So, how do I eat what I need to run and still lose weight?

Listen to your body! When you stop worrying about how much you should eat, you simply eat to fuel your machine. It's amazing how beautifully the body works when you simply let go and let it take over.

Hi, I have run in 17 5k's and 1 8k and I have done consistantly better since changing my diet to more whole ingredients and less processed foods. I have much more energy and never feel hungry because I eat every couple of hours and stay away from, dairy, meat, or any animal products. Doing this has helped my running as well as helped me lose 20 pounds. Good luck! you will love the feeling of completing a 5k race!

I'm a runner as well and I have had better success with my training since eating only kind foods. It is amazing to see the difference. As Julia said, don't worry about it...your body will tell you what it needs and suprisingly, by eating the kind foods you won't need much else. I am a competitive runner and train hard and I have not had to do anything different or special to keep my strength and energy level where they need to be.
Trust the kind foods!
