UTI's

I get recurring bladder infections, three to four times a year and I'm always being put on antibiotics. I'm very interested in prevention and I know the basics as to what I can do to prevent these infections. However, one thing my doctor recommended was drinking cranberry juice every days. Is cranberry juice considered superhero?

If you get the plain organic unsweetened kind I think it would be okay. When I drink it, I have to add it to water. I do a 4-5 part water to 1 part cranberry ratio since it is really, really strong so even if it's not superhero, you'd only be drinking maybe 1/4 cup per day (at least that's what I do).

I'll be watching to see what others say about this though. I'm learning so much from this forum.

Be careful with drinking too much cranberry juice as it can be hard on your system and, if I remember correctly, too much can cause gall stones. Read up on it.
R.W. Knudsen (sp) makes a great unsweetened straight, meaning to no other fruit juices, cranberry juice. It's a bit pricey but it's worth it and I think it's organic. Also marshmallow root helps with UTI's and look for it in a tea form.
If you can buy , or check out from the library, take a look at Prescription for Nutritional Healing by Phyllis Balch and also Prescription for Herbal Healing by the same author. Very helpful when it comes to healing sickness with food and herbs. It's trial and error so if you do try some of the suggestions you have to find out what works for you.

I have had the same problem ongoing for years. i am only vegetarian right now so am not sure if this coinsides with superhero but i take cranberry supplements instead of drinking the juice. Its a straight vitamin that i take everyday with food and it has completely cleared up all traces of my bladder infections. I have been taking it for about eight months and havent had one since. just a thought!

Traditional Medicinals makes a cranberry tea for UTI's. It is called organic cran-aid. It works pretty well for me.

Sorry to dredge up this old thread, I just found this forum and was browsing through and wanted to share something that really helped my recurring UTIs. I had recurring kidney infections and kept being treated with antibiotics and my immune system was really struggling under the strain. All my internet research was telling the same story - doctors don't really know how to "fix" this kind of problem and stop it from coming back, and I just saw years and years of pain ahead of me. Then I found something called D-Mannose. It's a simple sugar derived from some kind of pine cone, and it works by attaching itself to the e-coli bacteria in the bladder. I decided to give it a try and felt INSTANT relief. After months of painful urination things felt better again! There are a lot of different places to buy it and lots of brands (I swear I'm not advertising for anyone!). Ultimately I think it was a TCM treatment which helped my kidneys really recover, but D-Mannose was an absolute lifechanger for me and I don't need to take it any more.
