i live in whitinsville MA- about 20 minutes outside of worcester. i went online to look for veggie places in the area, without much optimism. i stumbled across the Belmont Vegetarian and read the reviews on Yelp.com- almost all 5 star. they said be prepared for a tiny little hole in that wall with two booths and a very plain atmosphere. also be prepared that the menu changes everyday, and the guy only makes as much food as he makes, and when its gone its gone. they said the guy is super nice, the food is amazing, and even though its called the Belmont vgetarian its actually all vegan.
i ran an errand in worcester today and decided to stop for lunch. i would have driven past it its so unimpressive looking from the outisde. i went in and there was the super nice guy everyone was talking about . i asked for the pepper steak and he said "wait wait wait... have you been here before? no? well try everything and then tell me what you want." and he made me a plate with the choices of the day: pepper steak, soy curry, vegetable stew, bbq soy and red beans and soy. i loved that you could see him dishing up the choices from these huge pots on the stove- real food!!!! oh my god i almost licked the plate. ive never liked curry but that ended up being my favorite. the pepper steak was amazing too- it TOTALLY had the texture of actual meat. (its all textured soy protien) he let me get a small plate with half veggie stew and half of the curry over brown rice. i ate half of it in the car and was so stuffed i saved the rest for a couple hours later when i got back home. my hubby tried it (amazing- he never tries ANYTHING "fake" normally) and was very impressed.

i dont eat soy too much, but this could totally be my once a week/every other week treat!
