"Kind" Nail Polish? Gum?

Like the young adult I am...I can't seem to go without my colored nails are without gum in my purse to give me something to chew on in 2 hour lectures at school. I am guessing that gum including sugar-free is loaded with "nasty" things. But what exactly? and are there safe alternatives?
Also what does nail polish hurt...I know something that smells that toxic, probably is...
