Hi Kind Lifers!
Here's my deal:I have decided to kick beef and pork nearly four months ago, but most days I have been eating vegan. I find that there is no drastic change in my body. If there is any result,it's hardly worth mentioning. I still have the same health problems. Phlegm, acne, digestion issues, and no energy. This past week my dad commented on how tired I looked and he said I may need some meat, or to take vitamins. I insisted that I look and feel as tired as I always did, before my diet change. I think I eat pretty well:I eat lots of whole grains and veggies, try to avoid processed foods, when I eat dairy, eggs, chicken/fish I try to eat organic/wild. I eat sweets but they are healthier, white sugar-free, and vegan. I've been thinking about taking vitamins, but Alicia says it's better to use whole foods. I dont know what to do. I would really appreciate any advice or insight!
I always find that when I am tired, and I exercise, my energy level goes way up. If you are not used to exercising, at first you will feel even more tired afterwards. If so, listen to your body and rest after the exercise. Even if it means laying on the sofa the rest of the day or taking a nap. But don't stop the daily exercise. That is key. In about 1-2 weeks, you will find that you are not so tired after you exercise. And then sometime after that you will find this incredible renewed energy. The more you exercise the more energy you will feel. If you can walk/jog/run...outdoors preferably...that is the best (at least it is for me) ...I love to walk/jog/run on the beach...very energizing. Right now my knees are bothering me from running up/down too many hills, but I am still walking and doing pilates and I find it really really helps.
Hope you find this helpful.

after almost 3 years of not eating meat i found myself getting sick A LOT, head colds, stomach issues, no energy, fun stuff like that. a nurse at the facility where i work noticed and brought me in a bottle of B-complex vitamins. i have been taking them daily since this summer and have not been sick since! remember to talk to your doctor before starting any vitamins but they might help!
You could be hypoglycemic, even if a test wouldn't show it. My experience with "sweets" and "starches" is that they are unfortunately just as bad for me as eating a cup of straight table sugar. Doctors have always said my blood sugar levels are normal, but I crash less than 30 minutes after eating anything sweeter than a piece of fruit. And when I say crash, I mean either I eat more sugar, or I pass out.
Try eating no starches (no fruit juice or white foods - potatoes, pasta, bread, dairy, sugar) for a full week, and see if that helps. Have a piece of fruit with a handful of unsalted nuts between each meal. And make sure you never go more than 3 hours without eating something.
Also, be sure this isn't related to caffeine by not having any for at least a full week. Caffeine addiction is just like sugar addiction: A few days without it will give you headaches and make you feel awful, but by day 7, you should feel normal again.
I take a B-12 supplement made by Solaray that is vegan and made in a base of whole rice and aloe vera gel. I take this every other day and feel that my energy level is much improved. Alicia even recommends it in her book.
i could not agree with Lulu more. excercise has made all the difference in the world for me! start at your own pace, even if its a walk around the block. not only has my energy level increased, but i find myself calmer and happier. Be proud of every kind thing you do for yourself- big or small. Best wishes!
