I decided to become Vegan for purely selfish reasons, but with my decision as always comes research. In the past eight weeks of being Vegan I have also read a number of books promoting a vegan lifestyle for various reasons. I' m about to finish one called Eating Animals, it is life changing. I think I would have become vegan much earlier if I knew the truth about what I had been eating. it saddens me that our government keeps these things from us in order to make a profit. I think this book should be required reading for all. Until the last ear or so I never realized how important is to be informed about the foods you eat. I know people who won't take medication because they are affraid of the possible side effects but will eat meat, artificial sweetners, etc... and have no idea where their food is coming from.
Hi Michelle,
Thanks for the comment on this book. I contemplated reading it, but didn't know if I would learn more. Glad to know it is worth the read. I finished Fast Food Nation, Skinny B!c$h and Food Rules. Working on the China Study now. But also trying to mix in pleasure reads too! Ha.
I am so proud of my friend, a high-school teacher, who does have her students read Fast Food Nation. Sheila, you rock! :)
I would also recommend The Food Revolution by John Robbins, it's long, but a very simplistic easy read. I love how it connects vegan eating habits and the environment. I also really liked how it presented the material, it didn't preach like Skinny B!tch dd (but I did lend up liking that book). Also just ordered my copy of eating animals, can't wait to read it!!
I keep hearing about Eating Animals. Thanks for posting, I will have to get that book next.
I'm finishing:
Thrive- the vegan nutrition guide by Brendan Brazier (He's in Alicia's book as a superhero).
Clean Food by Terry Walters (terrywalters.net) someone on the forum recommended it and I want to thank them immensely. It talks about grains and how to soak them and beans as well, she lists her recipes by season. It's very awesome.
Next on the list:
The China Study
Eating Animals
Checking on which cookbook I want to get next - Any recommendations?
See you guys around the forum,

I've been reading like crazy on the topic also. To add to the cookbooks- just got Vegan Yum Yum- really good one, she has a blog too, so you can check out her recipes, also try littlehouseofveggies.blogspot.com- good stuff there too.
