My eyes have been opened to the chemical crap that I may be swallowing by using traditional toothpastes. I'm trying "Tom's" natural mint toothpaste and I don't mind it. Do natural toothpastes really protect our teeth the same way? I don't want to show up at the dentist with a mouth full of cavities!! Any preferences when it comes to natural toothpaste brands?? Thanks!!

I use kiss my face triple action with whitening and I really like it, all toothpastes work just as well in cleaning and protecting your teeth. I would think the natural brands work even better because they don't contain the sweeteners and dyes of "traditional" brands.

I also have been using various natural brands for years, though since I am kind of neurotic about making sure my toothpaste, soap, and shampoo don't contain SLS my choices are very limited. Jason has some good stuff, and Tom's is popular though I don't really care for it. I've also heard Weleda is a good one to try. I also had more dental issues while using conventional toothpastes than after switching to natural.

I haven't used conventional toothpaste in 10 years. Fluoride is the biggest sham of the 20th century. I recently found a good toothpaste at Karyn's raw in Chicago. Before that I just used mixture of baking soda, sea salt and a few drops of "gum joy oil", a blend of essential oils you can get from Sunfood.com.
I haven't had cavities or any dental problems since i stopped using toothpaste.

have any of you read michael pollan's In Defense of Food? he talks about how what you eat has more to do with oral health than brushing. so less sugars, refined and processed foods, and you should do fine. with the vegan or superhero diet, your teeth should do just fine without much worry. obviously it's hard to avoid these things all the time, so still brush, but don't sweat too much about "protecting" your teeth. what you choose to eat will do a far better job of that than any toothpaste could.

I"ve been using Tom's for as long as I can remember (with flouride) and have had no problems. My kids use it too.

was babysitting my nieces/nephew last night and just cringing when it came time for them to brush their teeth - with the sugar filled/fluoride filled/ artificially colored crap they have.

Like Axa, I love Welleda ! although the one in the red box (is it raithia?) can stain if you tend to drool a bit and hit your clothes whilst brushing....am loving the plant gel one they have though.

once you hit a certain age, the pH of your mouth changes and you really should not be getting cavities - the problem then becomes gum health and thats what you need to start worrying about.

I echo the flouride comment as well- a great book is The Flouride deception about the history of this evil chemical.
