Agave Nectar Worse Than High Fructose Corn Syrup according to Dr. Mercola

A coworker passed this along to me. I could NOT believe it! The facts presented in the article make sense to me, but who knows. I am glad that TKD doesn't call for a lot of agave nectar in any case, but there goes my plan to buy the babycakes cookbook! I flipped through it and practically every recipe calls for agave. What do you guys think about this?

eh...i dunno. i get raw agave so some of the things he says don't make sense. i am also not allowed sugar or sweetener of any kind (because of health reasons) and when i allow myself something sweetened with agave it doesn't cause anything negative...UNLIKE when i have normal sugar.

Wow and I have a whole bottle in my cabinet. It is unopened because I'm all about the Brown rice syrup lately but still what a waste.

This has captured my attention. However, I think we need some empirical studies from more sources before we chuck out all of our expensive agave.

The link makes me think twice about believing what is said about agave nectar; too flashy or something.

There's always maple syrup! BTW, I've known several maple syrup producers over the years (including my wife who did it as part of the school district's educational program) and I've never heard of hanging bacon above the simmering trays.

I think it's important to keep it in perpective. if you only use a little bit it's better than sugar.

I really doubt agave is worse than HFCS. That said, it's empty calories so I don't use too much.

Just Googled Dr. Mercola. Let's just say he's controversial:

It seems like there is some kind of controversy with just about everything these days. I still use agave, but only in special treats. I make raw cupcakes, using it in some of the bases and icings. However, I don't eat these everyday. I also sometimes substitute other sweeteners like maple syrup or yacon syrup.
