OMG! Why the hell have I not been vegan my whole life? I've been animal-free for almost four weeks and i love love love it!!! First of all, (hows this for a good story) I'm 24 and I have always always always had headaches. I had extra strength excedrin and excedrin for migranes (bc it was the only thing that worked) in my purse, my room, and my bathroom for years. No joke, I would take this medicine 5-6 times a week, once or twice a day. I have asked doctors and even thought about a surgery. Maybe I watch Grey's Anatomy too much but I was convinced I had a grapefruit sized tumor in my head. It was awful, it made me always cranky and I couldn't listen to my Lady Gaga CD too much. Well, enter veganism...the headaches are gone! I can not believe how good this feels, it almost brought me to tears because I can not remember being headache free before I became a vegan. With all that being said, I need help! Yes I've been vegan for four weeks but I've been a badd vegan. I have only cooked like twice (choc. peanut butter cups!). I know it's terrible but I feel overwhelmed. I really want to cut down the processed vegan food and cook a lot more but I feel like a lot of the recipies (in Alicia's book and others) require so many different foods, and I have found it easier to buy packaged foods. I know I could probably feel even more better if I started cooking for myself. What do you guys think are the staples that I need to have in my home? Things that can be used for a variety of recipies? Also, things that won't break the bank!! Thanks guys!!! <3 bailey

Dont worry too much and take it one step at a time. You might want to start with making dishes that you've made before vegan. Substituut meat with tofu, beans, brown rice, lentils etc. These are not too expensive...
Eating rice with vegetables is a great way to. S[aghetti with vegs, chili sin carne...

If you drink soymilk or any othe kind of milk it gets you also plenty of everything. Eat some nuts, lots of fruits/vegs, make nice smoothies. You'll be fine. And slowly slowly it will grow on you.
I started like that and slowly slowly incorporate some of the more excotic suggestions... Just look at how your body reacts. What do you like and what you like less... What feels good, what suits less...

I am a newly vegan, still flirting... I did not eat meat for 20+ years but ate some fish every now and then. I dont know how this vegan stuf ;) came in my life, but all of a sudden it was everywhere... Cutting out dairy was more easy than expected as I used to eat a lot of cheese! I am now eating vegan for 3 weeks and it going fine. Mostly also because i discover i really like cooking, which i never did. I used to buy most things ready because i thought it was difficult to make them. But now i am experimenting, just made lentil-artishoke stew, vegan chocolate-mousse and veganaise! All easy and so good :) I posted them on the forum. So finding out that i am not a toad in the kitchen but blossoming into a princess is an extra reward i did not expect when i embarked on this journey :) You can do it too
Good luck!
