Am I detoxing?

I'm sort of ashamed, but during the week after Easter I was eating some leftovers that my aunts sent me back to college with that were definitely not vegan-friendly (have otherwise been vegan since January). I was also munching on some non-vegan chocolates :( I just can't bring myself to waste food!
I've been feeling really yucky in my stomach. I've been having pretty much all the possible digestive upsets for a few days. It doesn't seem bad enough for it to be some sort of "stomach bug" but it's definitely been disrupting my schedule. Could it be from the little bit of junk food and dairy I'd been eating recently?

Hi Everyone! I'm so glad that I am not the only one experiencing the acne, runny nose, and 'pings'. Now I know it's part of the detox process. One question: Do you get hunger pangs shortly (within 30 minutes) after eating?

DesertBelle-

I do!!! I feel more hungry now then before this way of life. I think it may just go through our systems quicker then before but I could be wrong. It is not enough for me to go the pantry to get more food. I remember somewhere in the book that it said the hungry feeling is a good feeling. I have learned to embrace that.

I was going through a lot of stomach pain about a week ago but i just drank a lot of water and powered through it. I feel fine now :) I thought it would never end though... I've been starving recently though so I'm trying to eat more filling foods but I work so sometimes I run out of what I brought....hehe I'm hoping that the hunger is just my metabolism adjusting to eating healthier meals more often though out the day but I hope it doesn't last to long...

I think I know why I have more hunger pangs...I'm not eating enough servings of whole grains like brown rice and oatmeal. I eat plenty of veggies. I'll let you know how I feel as I add more whole grains to my diet! Thanks Eve!

I hope it works. I actually added more in and lost a bit of weight. YEAH!

I'm not sure, but the low back pain could mean you need more water. I try to push the water because I tend to be dehydrated. I'm less than a week in and I feel great! I have some indigestion, and am also going to the bathroom way more often. I'm sleeping better at night, waking up with less pain (I have fibromyalgia pretty bad), and my skin looks much better. I take a packed lunch to work which I estimate to be enough for two days, so if I get hungry before its time to leave, I just go have some extra. LOL! I also keep a stash of Larabars in my purse and in my desk at work, so if I get a craving, I have something quick to reach for. (Dont know if the Larabars are ok, but I think they are). I keep homemade hummus on hand so I have something I can grab and munch on while I cook dinner...I think most of my success so far is all about being prepared. haha! I can't even THINK when I'm at a certain point of hungry. So I try to have healthy stuff at the ready at all times. Good luck, everyone! Hang in there! I think it only gets better!!

Hey Terri!

I also feel really good except for the back pain and some ping and pangs. I have not had the bad skin issues. I sleep well, have more energy and having fun! I am not practiceing being a true vegan because sometimes I have fish. Hope thats ok to share but I feel I am not getting enough protein.

Eve- have you tried quinoa (KEEN-wah) yet? Its a whole grain and its loaded with protein. You can add it to soups or have it with some sauteed veggies. :-) Glad you are feeling well, overall. Keep us posted on those pings and pangs and back pain. Hope they subside quickly.

I love quinoa! I did not realize it had protein.IF you have any suggestion on different ways to cook it I would love to hear. I only know how to make it one way. It is very yummy with carrots, squash, cranberries, cinnamon and paprika.
