About to burst because I'm soooo bloated!

I've been a vegetarian for about 3 weeks and I feel great except I'm so bloated. Whenever I eat or drink water I can feel my stomach expand to a point where I feel like I'm about to burst. I am not constipated (thank God!) and I've been hiding my big bloated belly under baggy sweaters even though it's getting warmer outside...aahhhh!! I don't want to wear a sweater all summer long! How long will it take for this to get under control? I go running regularly and I've noticed I've gotten slimmer in my face, arms, and thighs, but my trunk doesn't match the rest of my body! Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This seems to be a really common problem! I felt like this for a while too. I've been vegan for about 3 1/2 months now and somewhere along the way, I'm not sure when, it just stopped. This post made me realize that I just haven't thought about it for a while. And I've heard from LOTS of other people who have this problem in the beginning. So hang in there :)

Suggestions: ginger tea. I bought ginger tea bags (they're often sold as some sort of "digestive" tea) but I suppose you could make it with fresh ginger. I tried that once and somehow it didn't turn out as well though. Also, have you tried the cure all tea with umeboshi plums? Those plums seem to work miracles for lots of people with lots of ailments, including digestive ones, so if you can find the plums, definitely try it.

Ginger really helps. Get yourself some fresh one in the supermarket and add a piece of it to everything you cook (veggies, legumes, etc.). Take it out afterwards. It reduces bloating as it prevents the formation of gas in stomach and bowel.
What also might help a little when cooking beans and legumes, after it started cooking, scoop out the foam that forms on top and get rid of it. This is also supposed to prevent bloating.
