I live in San Jose, Ca and am looking for some great recommendations of restaurants! I know there are places in San Francisco but I was looking for places closer to the South Bay. Anything would help...even where NOT to go! Also any other recommendations like grocery stores, bakeries, clothing store, etc. would be a big help too! I am a newly veg so I need all the help and support I can get.

Although I am new to being vegan, I have tried a couple of different vegan places in Berkeley and San Francisco! There is a great one in berkeley called Cafe Gratitude! The staff is so nice and friendly-- and there are so many delicious vegan dishes to try! Also, Herbivore is a good one too (Also in Berkeley). It is helpful to google vegan restaurants in the bay area-- a whole list shows up! I'm sure there are a lot of restaurants closer to you in San Jose. Good luck!

Thank you so much for the suggestions. Are there also good vegan stores in Berkeley? We only have Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, which I love but I would like to try a different place. I guess i will have to make a day trip out if it and spend some time in Berkeley, I've never been there before!

If you love Cafe Gratitude (berkeley & Sf locations) check out Gracias Madre also owned by the same people. What makes it different is that is a vegan mexican restaurant. Cafe Grat is amazing, If you ever find yourself in downtown Oakland Cafe Grat is located inside Whole Foods. Souley Vegan is another lovely restaurant located in Oakland's Jack London Square. I'd also love to recommend Philz Coffee for having delicious vegan treats, especially The Inspired Cookies which can also be found at Rainbow.

Thanks for all the great suggestions....looks like there are a lot more vegan choices in the east and north bay! Hopefully these great options will migrate down south. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the south bay noticed for us vegans! We need some veggie love!!!

Thanks! I am going to Good Karma tomorrow to try it out...I'll post my experience. I am so excited to check it out because it's a cafe style restaurant so I can bring my homework there! Doesn't get better then a place I can get good vegan food and some work done.

There is also a Cafe Gratitude in the Cupertino Whole Foods. Great Bear Coffee and Icing on the Cake in Los Gatos offer vegan bakery items. Also in Los Gatos is a great Meditteranean restaurant called Shish Kebab which serve delicious falafels. There's an Ethiopian restaurant in Saratoga which has been on Check Please Bay Area. They have a lot of vegan options. The places previously mentioned are definitely worth checking out also. And of course, wonderful farmer markets :)

I just thought of Amici's Pizza. They have a vegan pizza. It satisfied my pizza craving when I didn't have the desire to make my own. I think it came with tomatoes, which I asked to be substitued for mushrooms. They were quite accommodating.
