Breaking Out!

Has anyone else's skin- who has just started the Kind Diet - started breaking out?
I've just spent the last week off meat and cutting back on dairy significantly (still working on phasing it out completely) and my usually clear skin (with the odd zit here and there) has abandonned me! I'm breaking out unlike ever before and was curious to know if this is just a "detox" of sorts because I thought that this would help clear up skin, not make it worse!!!

Anyone have the same problem? Any suggestions or answers?!

Please help!

Karyn

It's definitely detox. It happens to A LOT of people. You should check out http://taylormadearomatherapy.com They have an all natural, vegan system for acne that is worth checking out. I am using some of their other products and LOVE them.

Thank you for the responses (and the suggestion Michelle) I appreciate it! I am going to test to see how my skin responds to taking dairy out completely (I start tomorrow!) and hopefully the nasty foods will work it's way out of my system and I can go back to having clear skin! I'll keep you posted to let you know in another week to see how the results are going....

The problem with detox atleast for me is that it apparently takes a while. I spent almost 37 years eating animal products and crap. It takes A WHILE for all the crap to come out of your system as in more than a couple of months. And everytime I cheat ( usually foods with egg or dairy in it- I don't always realize it's there at first) I can definately tell there is a detox associated with it.

I guess that's a really good reason to NEVER cheat. Sometimes I skim the ingredients. That's when I get caught. Like the veggie burgers that had egg the other day- now I'm breaking out. It's not like before but more than I'm used to lately.

I don't really know how long it takes to get TRULY detoxed. Would be good to know though.

This is my week of extreme limiting to exclusion of dairy products and I must be in the extreme process of detoxing because now I'm breaking out more than I ever have & I have a lovely set of red dots in two little patches on my upper left arm. Is this normal???

I just started the Kind Diet too and what you're going through must be normal, because good lord my face is not doing well. I've always had small pimples here and there, but now they are giant, sore, and refuse to come to a head. My face hurts! I'm hoping this clears up before my wedding in September. Does anyone know how long the detox phase lasts for skin? I'm kind of miserable!

I hear ya Jaclyn! I want to know how long this is suppose to last because even though I have my reasons for choosing this lifestyle, having my face break out as much as it is is very, very discouraging. I know what you mean when saying that the pimples are not coming to a head either because mine is just like (not to gross anyone out!!) clear liquid that is coming out... not too sure what that's all about??? I'm hoping this detox is coming near an end! Hope yours clears up soon too - and that it won't take until September to go back to having clear skin!

Hi all,
This reaction to going vegan seems to be quite common ( check previous threads for more info). The concept of detoxification is a feature of the macrobiotic approach to healing. It is simply the bodies way of removing toxins once you have stopped eating them.

It sounds like something else is going on here. It is common for those who give up meat and dairy to substitute vegan, soy based analogs. Fake meat and cheeses are highly processed and may contain foods or ingredients that are causing your troubles.

Consider soy. Several earlier posters reported that when they eliminated soy, their skin returned to normal. You could consider a short trial period say one or two weeks avoiding all soy to find out if that is what is happening in your case.

Almost any other new ingredient could be the culprit here so keep an open mind about what it could be. Carrageen, gluten, cane crystals and tapioca are possibilities as well.

Good luck and check out the previous threads, Justin

I've never done this, but as a newbie/flirter whose had some detox issues I've been looking into the idea of fasting. It's supposed to be the fastest (hehe) way to detox your body. There's tons of fasting info online, but the basics are: raw foods fast, juice fast, the master cleanse and water fasting. What I've learned is that each is progressively more painful at first, but that much more powerful. It sounded like the juice fast was the most widely accepted version followed by the master cleanse, which is just lemon juice, cayenne pepper, maple syrup and water.
It might help to do this, and just get the detox over with... :/
