SGK's response to my email. Egh. Did it fall on deaf ears or what? Yes, I know all grilled meat is bad, so EDUCATE people SGK if you are actually "FOR the CURE."

"Thank you for your e-mail to us ... You should know that our partnership with KFC is designed to help reach millions of women we might not otherwise reach with breast health education and awareness messages which we consider critical to our mission. This additional outreach is made possible through KFC's 5,300 restaurants (about 900 of them in communities not yet served by a Komen Affiliate). This partnership also helps us to generate funding toward the $1.5 billion in research and community programs that Komen has funded over 30 years - programs that are literally saving women's lives through better treatments and early detection.

Our partnership focuses on healthy options at KFC - grilled chicken and vegetables, for example. Ultimately, we believe that the decision to maintain a well-balanced diet lies in the hands of the consumer. KFC provides tools to make those choices, by providing a healthy choice menu and advice on its Web site on how consumers can limit fat and calorie consumption in its products." What?!

"I would also direct you to a National Cancer Institute study regarding your concerns about the release of Ph1P when meats are cooked at high temperatures. This includes meats grilled at home, or "to order" at restaurants - this potential release is not limited to foods cooked only at KFC or any other fast food restaurant. NCI also has not established safe or unsafe levels for Ph1P consumption. You can read NCI's fact sheet on this issue at "

Truly Frustrating. Safe vs Unsafe levels? I usually just limit my consumption of known carcinogens to the 'safe levels'. Don't all of you?

I received the same letter. SGK removed all (not just mine) negative comments to their Facebook page regarding this campaign....therefore taking our voices away from this matter.....just like a greedy corporation would do. So sad.

I think I have done all I can do to get the message out regarding this campaign. I will no longer support Komen.......switching to Avon's Breast Cancer Foundation.

People are so ignorant when it comes to the connection of food with illnesses. This campagn is super disturbing. Just seeing those pink buckets of chicken...it makes me want to scream. And I find it even more distubring that SGK removed those comments from their website. SGK more like the KGB. Sensoring what we have to say. Breathe Danielle.

I too sent a message to SGK through their website. I am pretty sure that I will get the same, automated response though.

@Danielle--I saw what you posted on SGK's FB page. Awesome! I tried to post as well, but I couldn't find the place to write comments in :-(

Danielle, they deleted your comments as well....they must have come back from lunch. I sent an e-mail to my local chapter letting them know our comments are being deleted. I copied your comment in my e-mail (noting that it too would probably be deleted.) I am trying to breathe as well......and I have an appointment to go get the girls squished by nasty radioactive machines today! Sigh.

Thanks Danielle. My girls were squished, pushed and rolled and in need of some TLC! LOL

Cancer research = animal experimentation

Not something I would ever support.

The Susan G. Kormen foundation funds animal experiments. I've had family members who have died of cancer. I still don't think inflicting pain on another sentient being can ever be justified . We don't get to trade off our suffering to another.

I am so disturbed by Komen and their pathetic response to LBN's letter. How can they even try to justify that partnership. And with so little of the money even going to Komen it is a disturbing marketing ploy to get people to say..."I going to buy a bucket o'chicken because I support breast cancer awareness". GAG!!!

I wrote a comment to Komen National - have not heard back. I told them I was a breast cancer survivor and sorry LBN but I used some of your lines as well (hope that is ok). I also referenced the article about PCRM's lawsuit against KFC.

I shared this information with my breast cancer group and they are all disgusted with Komen over this. Hopefully they will speak up as well.

I just saw this - a great, scathing article from Alicia's friend Christina Pirello in the Huffington Post - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/christina-pi...f_b_539355.html

Excerpt -
"Spend some time on the Susan G. Komen for the Cure website and you'll see lots of resources for women to find information once diagnosed. You'll also find sections advising women about living a healthy lifestyle by eating a healthy diet and maintaining a healthy weight. But how can they really talk about healthy eating when they partner with the very kinds of companies that destroy the health of all people, not just women? How can they accept one penny from companies like KFC whose products create the exact health problems this organization is sworn to defeat? Someone is tilting at the wrong windmill ..... It's in the hands of women now. They are our breasts. We need to stand up for ourselves and say no...no to the lying, the manipulation, the poison and the exploitation of our health. We need to live natural lives and eat whole unprocessed plant-based foods. Then and only then is there a chance for the cure that has been dangled in front of us for years from the end of a little pink ribbon. "
