Can you imagine a young girl from Texas that works at a steakhouse and has just began to flirt? I love my coworkers and my job is fun but I often ask myself if its ok to work at a place like this even if I don't eat the meat? And I'm sorry but the people who eat at my job (God bless them they pay my bills... well some of them, the decent tippers) are so gluttonous it makes me sick. They eat so much meat and bread and everything else that we serve which is all full of salt, bacon grease meat drippings ect. I sometimes feel guilty at work but I need a job and I love everything about my job except the food. I feel that living in Texas is so much about steak and meat and barbecue. In San Antonio, where I live there is ONE completely meatless restaurant that I know of. But even with all that said, I will explore and educate myself further in terms of this food revolution. I will take it as a rewarding challenge because oh baby in Texas and especially in my community, this can be challenging!!!

It really is a challenge to be a vegan in Texas. I have done it for 4 years now. If you live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, the Spiral Diner is terrific for dining, and they have great cooking classes. There are several vegetarian societies also. My family still eats meat except my daughter and me, and we are working on them. I wish you great success!

What a small world. I stumble upon your post and I too live in San Antonio and I work at Kirby's Steakhouse. It is so difficult watching people eat food that is so terrible for them. I understand though the conflict between heart and what pays the bills. I am still a flirt but eventually I plan to be vegan. I wish you the best of luck because I know how hard it is in a place of Tex-Mex and BBQ.

Thanks a lot Lee-Anna, it feel great to hear from people like you that can relate to my experience at work even if its a different circumstance. We will both eventually find better jobs LOL. For now, whatever small steps we can take forward towards a better future count! ;)
