while I'm on here I might as well ask, does anyone know where to buy mochi?Oh and is there a substitute for mirin without alcohol? And one more question, where to find granulated maple sugar? If anyone could help me with this? Thanks:)
I am originally from Edmonton, AB and now live in Grande Prairie. I have been able to find most ingredients at local grocery stores, however eating in restaurants is a totally different story!!! This is an oilfield based city and most people just don't seem to be on board with the vegan way of life. Does anyone have any suggestions?? I travel back to Edmonton regularly, so if anyone has any good restaurants/spots to try out, let me know. Thanx
Ohhh Roanne I went to school in St Kitz! Are you from there? I miss Chili's on Monday nights :)
Hola!!!
Am I the only one on here from Victoria, BC.... :(
I'm finding it difficult to find anything here and would love some tips from others who have done the reseach and have more knowledge than me!
thanks so much!
Hey Roanne!
I found some granulated maple sugar at Whole Foods - it's quite expensive: for a little bottle of it - $12.00. But completely worth it I'd say. I've been trying to cut down on my sugar use anyway, and if I have a smaller stash of it, it really makes me pay attention to how much I'm using! (i kind of ration it!)
Anybody from the Maritimes found maple sugar anywhere?
Hi Kristen, I am from St. Kitz..born and raised!
Thank you Renee, I heard it's quite expensive..but you're right it is worth it! :)
Hi all!
I'm from Toronto, so have lots of places to look for stuff, although haven't really explored all (or even many) options.
I had been looking for maple sugar and completely forgot the last time I was in Whole Foods! I'll have to look for it this weekend.
Jenna!
I feel for you as I have family who live in Grande Prairie... and yes, they aren't exactly on board with the idea of the vegan life style. My suggestion would be to get everything you need from Edmonton with lots of freezable items! Also, try inviting your friends over for a fun dinner party and make the food all vegan! It will be fun, it will show them just how yummy vegan food can be, and maybe you will create a couple of flirters! :) That way you won't be in it all alone!
Good idea Tessa! Now with it coming into BBQ season there are tons of grilled veggies and summer salads that I can make. I am going to Edmonton this weekend actually, going to have to stock up.
Thanx for the suggestions
