Let me tell all of you, I've tried lots of lotions. Ederma's DMAE - very smelly, Hyaluronic Acid, various oils....NOTHING works as good as vaseline!! I am 54 years old and I continually go back to vaseline, no matter what I try. Only before bedtime tho'. I wash my face, and while it is still wet, rub vaseline all over. It holds in the moisture and my skin has not 'died' because it was suffocated!! lol. YES, I see glowing skin in the am! I've tried very expensive lotions that actually DRIED my skin, even tho they claim to moisturize. Vaseline does wonders in preventing scaring - ask anyone with a tatoo!! I am always asked if I had a facelift and always told how young I look. My mom has never used anything but vaseline and at 71 yrs old, has been mistaken for 50 and YOUNGER!!! I will never give up my vaseline for expensive crap, ever again! I LOVE it!

Vaseline is a petroleum based product along with mineral oil.

Both contain molecules that are larger than your pore, so you basically are moisturizing from the inside out. Noting goes in and nothing comes out.

Eminence Organic Skin Care & Organic Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Coconut Oil - amazing products. I highly recommend... Bruce Fife has a book out on all the benefits of Coconut Oil. It's incredible.

Vaseline and petroleum are bad for your skin. The petroleum blocks your pores from absorbing anything that would moisturize your skin. You've heard how people are 'addicted' to chapstick - that's because of the petroleum they put in there. You keep applying because you need it, while its creating a barrier on your lips never to heal them. www.HealMysole.com makes awesome lip balms that have been compared to Burts and other natural lip balms.

Mimi Kirk (aka The sexiest vegan over 50) she is 72 and uses coconut oil on her face and body so I tried it and must agree it really works!!!!! Personally, I don't like vaseline as it makes my lips dry and have to keep using more. I use burts bees on my lips....its the only thing I would!

I love coconut oil! I use it as boy lotion, shaving gel,mix it with Colloidal silver and other stuff for moisturiser-the Lauric Acid in coconut is great for acne, exczema and psorirasis.Plus it smells delicious, especially when mixed with jasmine!

I am confused!!! Since Childhoood I am hearing all praises for Vaseline. I am using this product since I was 10 and had no issues using. But this thread is making me rethink. I hope the product is good enough.

Ever since I learned about organic chemistry and the LPG(liquified petroleum gas) that is used in some cars..etc, I thought "ewww vaseline is made of petroleum?" But I 've heard and read so many people saying they used vaseline all their life and their skin glows. So I think it does work. However, those people seem to wash their face and apply vaseline while their skin has water. So that vaseline traps the water inside. Also, they don't wear vaseline on their skin 24/7. So I think as long as you use vaseline to trap in moisture, it works wonders.

And for chapped lips, vaseline doesn't heal. It only protects from further chapping. So you can put really good moisturizer such as pure shea butter and then put vaseline on top of that. The body naturally heals any chapped or open skin so you don't really need to put anything than what can protect it. I guess if you want to heal faster, use some sort of neosporin(which is antibiotic+petroleum) on chapped lips.
