Hey all you runners, I'm looking to sponge up some of your lovely support. I've been running for a few years now, and am about to do my 3rd half marathon. I'm registered for a full this October. Feeling a little overwhelmed and unsure of myself. I keep telling myself I CAN do it, but that little voice in the back of my head keeps shouting "Hey nut-job! It's 26.2 miles...remember?!?!"

Since going vegan, my running has seriously improved. My first half-marathon I literally was curled in bed for a full day after with terrible stomach cramps!

Would love to hear from anyone training for a marathon or who has had experience with one!

Hey Julia! Good for you signing up for a full marathon. You, unlike many, are going to be just fine having done some half marathons before. And yes, you are a nut-job, as most of us runners are....I have completed 4 marathons and my non-runner friends remind me of that before each one!! It is overwhelming, especially when you are first started your training, but once you get into a schedule/routine its no different from preparing for any other race....just a bit longer. You'll be fine and I'm looking forward to hearing about the journey!

I found the same thing after going almost 100% vegan (2 months ago)....my running, energy level, and recovery time are all improving. I am anxious to see how my next race will go!

Run well
Susan

That is awesome. I love running. You should check out the website...no meat athlete. Very interesting and inspirational. I am currently reading the book, Thrive, by Brendan Brazier. He is a vegan triathlete. Great book about how to increase recovery time after breaking your body down during exercise.

Julia,
Running a full marathon can be a little nerve racking. However, it will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. You will become a marathoner for life! (Even if it is your 1 and only marathon) It will be hard and it is supposed to be hard. If it were as easy as a half, then more people will be doing it. My best adivce is to train and stick to a schedule. I really found Hal Hidgon's book called: Marathon, to be really helpful. He has different schedules to follow. I used it for my 2nd marathon and it really helped. Check it out. The hardest part is getting to the starting line! Good luck!

Ahhh! I love Brendan Brazier's books. He even provides recipes and a regimen that he follows for optimum health.

hi julia! i just ran the boston marathon last week. it was my first marathon and crossing the finish line was a feeling like no other. i've been vegan for almost a year now (august!) and started running in october, so i'm not sure what the transition will be like for you. wishing you the best of luck in your training, and if you have any questions feel free to PM me!

you will do GREAT julia!!! you are clearly not a newbie to running with all those halves under your belt, and you have plenty of time to train for a full. i second the hal higdon recommendation - i used his beginner program to train for my first full, and it definitely got me across the finish line. you can actually find his programs for free at http://www.halhigdon.com/
