For pretty much every meal I have been using either Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Earth Balance Butter. I would like to cut back from this but am not sure how to cook Kale(or other greens) without sauteeing them--I don't like the taste of them raw or steamed. I feel like I'm getting too much fat in my diet. And with trying to lose weight--this can't be good. I have read on the weight loss forum that people are having a hard time losing weight because they are consuming way too many calories. I've done some totals myself a little bit and it is alot. I have not lost any weight yet and have been officially vegan for 2 weeks now. Should I start counting calories for a while? I know Alicia says to not count the calories. I'm not sure what to do here...please help :)

I kind of trailed from my original ?...what do u use more EVOO or Earth Balance Butter?

I use both. Lots of both. I try to be moderate but I still seem to go through it.

i want to find a replacement for the Earth Balance because the palm oil is contributing to orangutans becoming homeless due to deforestation in order to grow palm orchards and being burned alive( they burn the forest after they cut them down to level it) and some of them get crushed in the process of cutting and bulldozing.

My point is I'm trying to find a palm free, dairy free option. If anyone finds one let me know!!!

Try cocnut oil, the body processes it differently, and its good for the hair and skin.

I have tried using coconut oil and to me it just tastes like soap. However I use it on the OUTSIDE of my body and it's awesome!!! I just rub the oil on after I shower or use it as a treatment for my hair. I now am trying to phase the Earth Balance out as much as possible so DEFINITELY the extra virgin olive oil is better!

If you're trying to lose weight coconut oil is the way to go for cooking. It doesn't taste the best but it is a medium chain fatty which gets dissolved into the blood and metabolized by the liver as apposed to long chain fatty acids like olive oil etc. that create new fat cells. Olive oil is a good source of fat, you just need to be very careful of your intake because it will create new fat cells in your body.
