Hi Alicia & Everyone! Vegan newbie here for a little over a month now. I've always wanted to be but frankly I was just too lazy & uninformed & boy does it show! I'm 41 years old, 5'5, 218 lbs., & barely had enough energy for doing the basics in my daily life. I've tried many diets over the yrs, failed miserably & felt awful for it. The Kind Diet doesn't "feel' like one. I finally understand what people mean when they say, "change of life style". It's less painful I'll tell you that much!

When I decided to start this journey I had been laid off for over a year & at that point was beginning to feel sorry for myself. I needed to tweak my self-esteem but how? The answer wasn't short term stuff either; like a pedicure, a new hairdo. Something life changing was what I needed. One day I was watching Oprah & she had on vegan Chef, Tal Ronnen, I was intrigued. I bought his book & started cooking...blindly. I say that because I was just cooking &, as Alicia says, still disconnected with my food. What really got me wanting more was listening to Alicia on Oprah, I was enlightened. I swear to you I rarely watch her show & I got more eye opening information from both shows than I could have asked for.

I'm only on chpt 5. I wish I could explain the excitement I feel with the knowledge I have been given. Everyday I share something from the book with my Facebook friends that made me go WOW! Let me tell ya..some of my friends are just as uninformed as I STILL am. I'm a work in progress. Their responses have been wonderful & encouraging. I hope to change their way of thinking & with it hopefully their lives. My journey has been baby steps & learning curves galore but I'm happy, my body's happy, I can feel it. It's been a wonderful learning experience for my children & even better health wise for my husband, who suffers from Gout. Adjustments still need to be made, it won't happen over night but I know that & I'm finally okay with it.
