Dizzy Spells & wanting to Gain Weight

I need help. My boyfriend stopped eating animal products about 6 weeks ago. I am very proud of him, he listened to me talk about the benefits and decided to try it. Overall he loves it. In the beginning he said he felt better and recovered faster from his long runs (he is a marathoner and ultramarathoner). Well lately (the last week), he has had dizzy spells. He will be standing in a store and get so dizzy he has to hold onto something. He takes b12 everyday so I assume it is not that. He focuses on getting protein through Vega protein shakes, legumes, beans etc. He is good with his whole grains and veggies. He eats constantly throughout the day.

Any thoughts on what can cause these dizzy spells?

And another issue. He is an athlete and runs a lot. He is naturally thin but now he is loosing too much weight. He is 6'3" and weights 185, he is best at 200. He eats tons of peanut butter and nuts but he can't seem to gain any weight.

Any thoughts on how he can gain weight?

Thanks for your help.

Get him to the doctor to get bloodwork done! It could be iron. It sounds like he is eating really well, so he might have an issue like anemia or a thyroid problem.

Definitely get him checked out stat. Also, Thrive, by Brenden Brazier, is a great resource for vegan athletes--I've been exploring it lately--maybe it will have better guidelines for him to follow. Brazier also has videos here http://vimeo.com/3356717
