Went to the doc today for my yearly physcial ... told her we were gearin up for the baby train ... wrote me a prescrip for some prenatal vitamins ... but I'd like to know what other brands you guys may have used ... vegan friendly if possible. My doctor is a total pill pusher and I don't believe these prenatals would be the best bet for me ....any advice? I want to do some research before buying my first bottle. Yeeee! :)

Thanks!!!

I'm taking Rainbow Light Just One Daily Multivitamin/Mineral. It is Vegan friendly and has an ample amount of iron and vitamin D (probably more than you need preconception-wise, but I like that it has a surplus). My doctor recommended taking a calcium supplement in addition to, at least, when I was pregnant.

Check out Vegetarian Mother's Cookbook (red and orange cover with an artwork pic of a pregnant mom). I really like how it outlines, with a chart, the vitamin needs preconception, prenatal and lactating. It's interesting! It also has good recipes broken down by preconception, trimesters and lactating. It caters to vegetarians but also has vegan recipes, too!

Good luck! We're on that train, also! :)

I'm 7 wks pregnant and I take the Rainbow Light prenatal vitamin as well. My midwife approved it yesterday although she did want me to take more folic acid and calcium.

This is good info. My husband and I are trying to have our first baby, but I've been a little worried on the same concerns that were shared. I will look into these. Good Luck future Mommies and Congrats and Good Luck on your pregnancy!

I came across this article in my studies for vegan pregnancies that I thought I would share. My husband and I are going to start trying in a few months and of course I have my concerns as well! Here is a link to remind us of what foods we'll need during those lovely 9 months:

I think I might order her book when the time comes. Hope this little bit of info helps! Best of luck to everyone!

I think the biggest thing to worry about is Folic Acid, as it is integral to proper neural tube development early in the pregnancy.

I used SuperNutrition. It says they are vegetarian based. To be honest, I wasn't vegan while I was pregnant so I didn't do all of the research to know if they are vegan-friendly but you might want to look into these.

After not finding a prenatal with everything I wanted, I've ended up taking a children's multi and additional folic acid so it equals 600 mcg. I did okay this through my doctor first though.

Rainbow Light Just Once offers 800 mcg of folic acid, which is enough as per my doctor. Try to eat a nice, well-balanced diet also.

I'm also contemplating the New Chapter Perfect Prenatals. I heard they were good quality. However, Rainbow Light is vegan and offers more vitamins and minerals as a whole.
