Lastly, I would like to say that I am able to enjoy wonderful vegan food from the cheapest of places like the Nellie Deli and the Dirty Mart-- to uber luxury like Stella!, Bayona & La Petite Grocery. Also, you have two Whole Foods & The Crescent City Farmers Market multiple times a week!! It is AWESOME!!

Thanks so much everyone! I have not eaten any land animals, milk, or eggs for over three weeks and am slowly cutting out seafood. The meat was not as hard as I thought to cut (although I do have my moments). However, now I am really struggling with cheese. Everyday I say "Ok, today I am not going to eat any cheese." and five minutes later I'm eating cheese sticks. It is like heroine, it's crazy how addictive it is! But I know with the support of this site I will get this right........eventually. Thanks again!

Hey Amanda! My advice to you is to keep doing what you're doing and lead by example and soon those of you around you will start to realize how important being vegetarian is to you and how it's positively effecting your life. It just takes some time.

When I first told my parents I was giving up meat, diary & eggs my dad thought It was a phase and that it would be over with in a month - now two years later I'm still vegan and my parents won't stop telling people how proud they are of me. They've cut back, significantly, on their meat consumption and even ask me to cook vegan meals for them occassionally :)

It can be hard! When i did it people thought it was just a phase. One person said that i was being childish! i could not believe it! That just made me want to do it more. Try Morning Star chicken patties and chicken nuggets they are my favorite meat alternatives. When i first started they helped me get through the really tough times. I live in the middle of no where so there are no health food stores. I have to depend on Wal Mart and they are not that great....

Just hang in there and soon people will realize it is not a phase and even join you. :)
