Hello All!
I'm a runner, training for a marathon and would love to get some ideas about some great & yummy pre & post run meals. I currently will do oatmeal with a nut butter, agave and some raisins and cinnamon thrown in there or Ezekiel bread w/nut butter for before my run... but a post 20 mile run meal??? What are some people doing to recover properly? Thanks for all your help :)
Be well,Bri

Pre-race for me is a piece of flourless, sprouted whole grain bread with chunky peanut butter.

Post run meals for me is always high protein and whole grains. I will often pre-cook lentils and brown rice to make sure I have a quick meal waiting for me. After my last marathon I had to drive 2+ hours immediately following the race so I had a pre-cooked field roast sausage on a whole grain multi seed bun in my car. And coconut water to replenish the electrolytes.

During my long runs I eat raw cashews and dates rolled in coconut for energy. And I drink Vega sports optimizer as my sports drink . I try to avoid high fructose corn syrup which is in most energy gels and sports drinks. I really think HFCS hampers recovery and makes the run more difficult.

After my last marathon (last weekend) I did not have any muscle soreness at all. My hips were tight but that was it! Same with my February marathon (ate lentils/brown race after). My January marathon I was in Miami so I was not able to eat properly after and I paid for it - definitely more sore than normal.
